Nobody comes close to Johnny Most. Although, I like them all Tommy, Scal and Gorman.

I wish they would occasionally have guest commentators or even interview the fans. Anything to break up the monotonous broadcasting format.

A while back they had Maxwell in for a couple games. He used to annoy me, but he's gotten a lot better. He offers good insight. Sometimes I even long for Cousy....just for the nostalgia.

Like Scal, he's a little less of a homer, but I wish Russillo was there, I really liked him.

Tommy.

Quite frankly I cannot stand listening to Scalabrine.  I recognize that Tommy has lost something off of his fastball (probably a lot too), but he's at least not spitting into the microphone with his volume flaring up and down like Scalabrine.  Tommy also brings more knowledge and fun to the broadcast than Scal.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed Cousy too.  My friend and I joke about how he was pulled off of the broadcasts back in 2007 b/c he was too honest about the team with his "wow, this Celtics team is not very good" type comments lol.

Given my icon, I just had to post here.  Johnny was unique, really can't compare him to anyone else.  Back in the 80's we used to turn down the TV sound and put on the radio.  His Celtics bias was quite endearing.  That's one thing I like about Tommy too who is also very knowledgeable.  Scal is coming along, but it will be a long time before he comes close to Johnny or Tommy.

Tommy is a staple of Celtics basketball. I've been listening to him as long as i've been a Celtics fan. I actually get depressed thinking of the day he won't be doing it anymore, which unfortunately is probably relatively soon.

I love Tommy, he's toned it down recently but he's an insight into the history of basketball and I appreciate that as a relative newcomer to the game.

Scal gets better all the time, he's very much an analytics guy and that is a good thing for the network I think. They still use a lot of the older, less useful stats on the TV and I can see Scal pushing some of the more advanced stats that truly tell a players effectiveness

Is it just me or has Tommy cut back a bit on the homerism?

I have the same impression.

I think he pays  lessattention to referree decisions this season. Last season there were moments I thought he would literally explode.

Since Tommy's homerism has been discussed at some length, here's my two cents. Coming from a country where there is a huge homerism culture (if all you watch is US sports, you have no idea), Tommy's homerism is the good kind. He is aware of it and often does it tongue in cheek. Plus, he has a good relation with Gorman who knows how to bring Tommy back to reality when he gets carried away.

Honestly, I would rather listen to Mike Gorman do both P b P and color. Tommy has passion, but the game has changed so much. Scal gives much better technical analysis, but he thinks he is much cooler than he really is. But... Gorman, by a mile.

Heinsohn.  Grew up with the guy.  He's an institution.    Gorman/Heinsohn is like Summerall/Madden; there's something special about it.

That being said, Scal will be a worthy full-time successor whenever Heinsohn does decide to call it quits.  Exponentially better than the days of Donny Marshall.
