Patience. This team was never suppose to contend for anything. Just enjoy the games. Our future is bright with Brown, Smart Roz and the Nets picks.

They weren't supposed to contend for a title this year, if that's what you mean, but the general impression I got from the team and those covering the team was that they'd easily be a top-4 team in the East, maybe as high as second and threatening the mighty Cavs. Right now we're celebrating narrow wins over the Sixers and "moral victories" that are actually DEmoralizing.

And I know, it's early in the season, and I'm probably overreacting, but it's still frustrating.

Please don't blame millenials or "young people" for the internet trash. Age is just a number. Some people grow old but never really grow up.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
So basically this thread was made so OP could vent his frustrations out on Smart, Phosita, and jpotter33..

I've always been told... If you believe someone doesn't know enough, then educate, or spark up a conversation/debate without flaming.

The moment you have to flame, you already lost the game.

Anyways..

Getting back on topic, Smart did extremely well, but Westbrook was whole another monster... I saw where he grabbed 3 rebounds over our players, and I was absolutely disgusted... We do need another rebounding big that can box out... We're missing crucial rebounds. In the 2nd quarter, the sports announcer said that was the first 2 second chance points we had... Unacceptable.

Smart may be to blame for the loss tonight, but so is everyone else. There was absolutely no urgency, just forced shots, turn overs, and just sloppy playing... I feel like we have seriously lost our competitive edge... What is going on..

It's based on your perspective, quite simply
We're the same and we're not; know what I'm saying? Listen
Son, I ain't better than you, I just think different

I think they will figure it out. Last year we went on an awful run (I believe we lost 5 out of 6 games) and the sky was falling. I think they will figure it out and win 50+ games and get homecourt in round 1.

Hopefully the team proves me right. I think Smarts made a bit of a statement in the last couple games and hopefully when Thomas comes back he can continue to get a chance to run the offense for extended stretches.

Smart is not a great shooter.  What else is new.  As long as he's playing efficient i dont care overly. DJ people forget that he wasn't that great a shooter either.  I remember watching the C's and DJ would hit some clutch 3's but was a bricklayer from deep a lot of the time  too.  We had Ainge and Bird which masked some of his deficiencies too. Where DJ was better was as a complete basketball player.  Smart is coming but not there yet.  Probably will never be that good but defensively he's meaner.

I still see alot of similarities between DJ and Smart. I don't care what anyone says.

Smart takes a lot more 3's than DJ ever did. Why his percentages are down. He also takes them as the shot clock is expiring. DJ used to do this too.  But better offense is what we need.

The celtics in the 80's were a much more well oiled machine and knew their shots.  The game today and particularly the celtics they are still finding their identity and just freestyle it a lot of the time.

The talent level is there with smart.  Going against Westbrook the league is more predicated on their stars now too where guys just run up and down the court and hog the ball and players play off them.

That's tough for smart when we aren't playing better team basketball and dont have those guys inside and out to go to.

Smart is also still learning.  Why I think it's good we've been having him play all over the place. It's made him a better all around player vs what he was in college as a volume scorer.

If Smart can become more and more efficient as a ball handler and shooter he'll be fine.

Yep, this forum has really deteriorated lately.

On a large-scale.  You're a long-time poster -- from experience, how do others make it better again?

Simple. A heck of a lot more respect for one another. That's it. The rest will come naturally.

People can and should post contradictory opinions, but post them with respect, and take a moment to think about what you really want to say, add some thought to it instead of an instant reaction.

I learned a great deal about basketball and other topics from past posters on these forums. Nowadays I just get disappointed with the back and forth flame wars over nothing on here.

It's not just about respect.  I honestly think young people who are growing up online aren't developing the skill to communicate.  They don't know how to argue.  They just vent.

Mike
Are we really blaming the '[dang] kids' on this one?

You can think I'm just "get off my lawn guy" but I can only go on my experiences.  I see a lot of obviously young folks online who don't treat conversation like conversation.  They treat it like it's a performance and they are the star.  Other posters are just a platform for them to perform.

And I suppose that's not anything new.  But those of us who grew up pre-Internet grew up knowing that if you were too much of a jerk, you'd get punched in the face.  Even if it never happened, we knew that it could.  It forced us to learn how to keep the jerkiness under wraps when interacting with others.  It forced us to listen and respond to others, which in turn helped us to develop and refine our arguments.

Now people just vent.  They don't want interaction.  They just want an audience.  And to be fair, it affects us olds as well but at least we retain a residual memory of when conversation was mostly face-to-face and the habits and expectations of that era.

Mike
What? Not all young kids are like that I assure you, I'm 15 and I don't really "vent", I joined here recently because I thought you guys had good discussions and I wanted to give my two cents on our favourite nba team, not to talk trash

My prediction is they will win the exact same number of games as last year and will be lucky to do so.  48

Let me sum up Marcus Smart

He does not suck , he just is not good enough , but he tries to be.

The mods are gonna love this thread when they see this.

Shameful.

Agreed. Things I hate worse than shoveling at 5am: wading through 5 pages of a dumpster fire of a thread and having to discipline long-term members. This is stupid, petty and out of character.
