This guy has been an all-star the last 4 seasons he has been healthy (Could very well be a 6 time consecutive all-star without the pec injuries). He won a championship in college. He is also pretty soft spoken and played in a non-glamorous market in Atlanta (also often playing along another big man that somewhat diluted his numbers). Do you guys think that if Horford was more brash and had played in a bigger market he would be viewed as a bigger star?

By comparison some of the other active players that have played in 3-5 all star games Blake Griffin, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Lamarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo, Paul George, Steph Curry, Kevin Love, Paul Milsap. Obviously some of those guys are younger, but still I wonder if the personality, market and rough injury stretch have overly dimmed his star.

Not necessarily because he doesn't put up flashy statistics and he's had injury problems. Other than 2012 Horford has been a 15/7 guy. In the last 5 years he's had seasons of 11 and 29 games. Except for Rondo and Milsap all of the guys you mentioned are 20+ ppg scorers. That's production, not just being brash. Milsap has been a consistent 18/9 guy and again has consistently put up better stats. Rondo is the odd duck who put up gaudy assist stats on a high-profile team loaded with HOFers. So his market and team helped in this case, as did his league-leading assist totals.

Horford is not viewed as a bigger star because his impact on the court isn't as easily quantifiable. He does a lot of things very well but nothing particularly great. There are better scorers, defenders, rebounders, passers...but few who can do all of those things as well as he can. He creates a winning team both in the locker room and on the court by doing the little things. He's also a great fit for the way the Celtics work and thus coming here is his best chance to work in an ideal system for his talents. That's why he was worth more to the Cs than to many other teams and why the Cs were a such an attraction for him.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

No Horford doesn't carry a team. He does help lead one but that isn't the same.

Well in 2012-2014 he was a lot closer to 18 points a game for 1. Do you think playing with some different players those stats could look a lot different? He was playing with a score first point guard in Teague and another guy that took a lot of shots in Milsap the last few years. I could envision on other teams, or say he had played in OKC instead of Durant? Or on Those wolves teams that Love put up the Gaudy stats for with Rubio? I know he is not a dominant scorer but I could see him getting 20 points in those teams in a little faster pace and set up to finish more inside.

Playing in Boston will make him a much bigger star.  Nobody cares about what happens in Atlanta.  It's like how Marcus camby got a huge boost by playing in New York despite having been defensive player of the year in Toronto prior to that.

My question is if he had a different personality would he be a worse or better player? If he was more cocky and brass, would that translate into a more selfish player that isnt dedicated to the team concept and uses every skill he has to its fullest to be the best player he could be? Or, would it make him better?

I don't pretend to know. I am just happy he is playing in Boston and looks like he should be a perfect fit.

Cover him with tats, stick a couple of diamond earrings on him, turn his hat backwards, have him take a knee at the sound of the Star Spangled Banner, maybe assault his baby momma...boom he'd sell more jerseys at the very least.

In Boston I have a feeling his scoring is going to tic up. The Celtics are a team that have been looking for a second option on offense, since the acquisition of IT. I think he fills that roll as good as anyone on the team. IMO he'll receive more ink as a member of the C's than Atlanta, leading to being viewed as more of a star.

But then again who really cares.

Sheed was more of a name with similarly blah stats and a support-oriented role. But that was just because he misbehaved enough to get his name in the press more.

KG was able to keep the perception of stardom well into his decline thanks to his extraordinary exuberance - cameras and reporters loved him. That would probably be the best way for Al to increase his profile in a positive way without changing his game.
