Although it isn't written in stone, Paul Pierce has decided to return to the NBA for a 19th season, league sources told the Orange County Register.

Pierce, 38, has debated whether to retire or play a second season with the LA Clippers. His coach, Doc Rivers, has said that if Pierce decided to walk away, plans are in place for him to retire as a member of the Boston Celtics. He played the first 15 seasons of his career in Boston, nine of them for Rivers.

Rivers brought in Pierce last season as a veteran presence with knowledge of how to win an NBA championship, hoping he would be the final piece to push the Clippers over the top. But injuries to Blake Griffin and Chris Paul led to a first-round postseason exit.

Pierce has averaged 20.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his career. After his Boston tenure, he spent one season with the Brooklyn Nets, another with the Washington Wizards and last year with the Clippers. He posted only 6.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.

cmon doc, trade him our way.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Pierce should retire.

One of those guys that does not realise that his time is up.  i mean i can't blame him since at least one NBA team is willing to sign him

but his defense is shot (instincts, experience can only take you so far).  Offensively he can still shoot if he has some space. But it takes alot of effort to create off the dribble

I'm just shocked how quickly he fell off since that Washington year he had.

It happens.   One year you could prob skip a few days between workouts.   And just one day, if you don't workout 6 times a week ,  you will lose your body shape/muscle mass

Pierce is only human.  I mean if he was not playing ball he could prob try to "overcome" the issue  by lifting much heavier weights.   Deadlift/squats.  But then he wouldn't be conditioning optimally to play ball

This season I can't imagine him playing on a nightly basis.   Likely his last year in the league.

IMO he just can't call it quits.  He loves the game too much.   It must be really hard for guys like him, Duncan, Kobe. Great players that also love the game the alot

Yeah I also wish he would just retire.  Sad to watch him last year.
