It just came to me, I think Smart is the strongest guard in the league.
I can't think of anyone else that compares to him in that regard.
Screen setters are well aware of him coming through. His reputation is already well established in that regard. Some are surprised, some are holding their ribs, DMC will get ejected for it.
He can also box out bigs. I have seen many times, most notably at the end of G1 vs Atlanta when he boxed-out Horford. On that play he also made a fairly accurate one-handed 60 foot heave with no time for preparation and inertia at all. Pure strenght. One number smaller MWP, during his Ron Artest days. Combined with his motor and guile - I love it.

I said when he was drafted. 6'3" 225 pounds, there is no good comparison.  Rozier is almost the same height and 190 pounds. Smart has probably gained 5 pounds since being drafted.

That means he's roughly 40 pounds heavier than Rozier or your Average guard. That's Crazy, that's why his first step is a little slower, cause he's built like a rhino!

I think his 1st step effectivenes has a lot to do with his shooting. They sag off a bit and then it's harder to penetrate. His lateral quickness is excellent, in the top 10% of the league IMO, top 45 players. As you wrote, the thing is he has the body mass. Combined with such a low center of gravity he is a Stonehenge rock.

He just needs to go to the hole strong, make contact and learn to finish.  A lot of guys will bounce off him.  It would help him immensely, if he could make them pay by good shooting when they back off him.

didn't Smart also has one of the best bench press performance at the combine? I forgot was it for 135 or 225? Dude's all muscle. While I agree he lacks the quickness in his first step,  but he makes up for it with his lateral quickness and strength on defense. It will be interesting to see how much of an improvement he has at year 3 playing "healthy"

I'd have to disagree on his lateral quickness. So far he cannot stay in front of a point guard like Teague. Just doesn't have the lateral quickness. He has all the instincts. Just not the foot speed.
