How could you think this was a good idea?

So he can't play offense. Who cares.

Exactly. Unless, of course, you are mainly interested in winning basketball games.

This is not football; you have to play both ends. Nerlens is a bigger deficit on offense than he is a plus on defense. I suspect he might have been the player that Danny Ainge had in mind when he commented over the summer that, while they needed a rim protector, sometimes a player will hurt you in other areas and you wind up no better off. In any case, The Celtics have already added Al Horford, who gives you a more complete game.

I don't think Noel is a $20M man - not even close.

Agreed.

But I think Noel is worth at least 50% more the Mosgov, who got about $18M...

The Mozgov deal was universally derided. I cannot agree with making it any kind of benchmark.

Hey, who could begrudge either player the fortunes that are now available to them?

Plus he's not a heavy-weight big man (at only around 230 pounds) and is very well conditioned, so he really SHOULD be pretty safe healthy wise in the long term.

Let me offer a different perspective.  Home position for his knees is fairly hyperextended, not leaving much margin for error. I note with interest that he has already blown out one of his ACL's.
