Sign and trade changes?

I keep reading that players no longer have an incentive to agree to "sign & trades".

What was the incentive under the old system?

And what changed?

is to help your team and yourself by getting more money on a sign and trade. Before you could get an extra year from your old team over the new team. The only way you could get the extra year with the new team is was through a sign and trade. I believe the NBA has taken that out.

That is my understanding, but I may be wrong.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe a player can only sign with his new team for 4 years whereas his current team can sign him for 5 years.  I believe it was equal years in the prior CBA.
