this has been bothering me for a while now, esp. with IT since he's said it numerous times. and that is whenever he's interviewed about courting players to come here he says crap like "we gotta get some players in here", I even think he went so far as to say "we gotta get some good players" in here once.

Wyc has also said similar things recently, once when introducing Horford at the press conference I believe he had said "finally we get a player in here" or something to that effect. and I remember maybe it was on felger & mazz he said similar things as well.

yes I know i'm paraphrasing here and that's because at the time I heard this crap I couldn't make this post and now I do have the time but forget the actual phrasing. but I remember at the time thinking both of these guys could have said the same thing but phrased it a helluva lot better.

because I actually agree we need good players in here, but as a teammate of these guys I couldn't help but feel pretty darn slighted by these guys.

I agree with the sentiment.

But... you play for the Celtics? !

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think if you tell each individual player, "Nah - I wasn't talking about you..." then you can smooth it over pretty well. Then when players get dealt for a star, it can kind-of be alluded to that those were the ones that needed to be replaced.

I would guess that players committed to winning would recognize that they need to improve the talent level of the team.  Those who can't handle it, bye bye.

Thankfully the ones that'd be bothered by it are not the ones I'd care to retain. More so, we just got Al Horford. More so, we also have plenty of roster spots filled with non-NBA ready players, so getting better players doesn't necessarily mean at the cost of our core group.

So in all, MEH!

I think Wyc was referring to the fact that they had never signed a big name free agent before and Horford signed the largest free agent contract in team history. Also, the team lost in the first round. Nobody should feel comfortable. The team needs to get better.

As for Isaiah, I heard him say something to the effect of "we won 48 games without a star on the team." I think that's a pretty spot on statement, especially coming from the only guy to make the all star team last year. I think most of the players feel the same. That was a competitive team, I doubt anyone was happy losing in the first round.

Someone on NBA radio (I don't remember who) basically said that Durant never would come to Boston because Thomas was basically a much lesser version of Westbrook and that Durant was just tired of playing that type of basketball.  He wanted a team that was all about ball movement and unselfishness, which is why he choose the Warriors.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yes, that's WHY he chose the Warriors over us... O.o

Team does need better players. It was mostly their back court winning games. Hordford is already an upgrade for their front.

Lol what? We've truly hit the offseason huh?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

this is one of the problems with courting the stars, but hey it is what it is... we need level 1 stars, and we did not have any. Every player should know his level, that is the only way you can improve.

They're not wrong, and I'm guessing players like Jonas Jerebko and Kelly Olynyk realize that they're a rung or two down the ladder from Al Horford.
