We're a title contender. Both OKC and Cleveland showed that there are ways that you can expose small ball by staying big and dominating the boards.

I actually that team would be a good bet to beat Cleveland with their size and versatility for small ball.

I like the defensive aspect and the rebounding aspect as well, but I still think shooting needs to get better. As the playoffs showed us, you need to shoot well in general to win games.

We have IT, and Horford>Sully, but I hope someone else emerges as a potential go-to scorer alongside IT and Horford. Looking at Bradley and Howard in this scenerio.

I know Howard isn't the 22/14 guy he was 5 years ago but if he can give us something like 16/13 production I would be more than happy. Also Horford can rebound efficiently as well (averaged 7 rebounds a game last season).

Something like a Butler trade could still very well happen. However, the upgrades in offense from both Horford and Howard would definitely help IT.

Better than nothing, I suppose. I like Horford. I don't like Howard at all, especially his price tag.

To quote the oft-used Ainge defense line: "Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make."

I completely agree with Ainge's quote there

Ainge did say he would overpay a bit to get a rim protector as well though. I'm not saying he's desperate to the point he will offer Howard a max but if he can agree on a short term deal Ainge just might bite.

Next year's FA class lacks rim protectors and the few that are available could stay with their same teams or sign extensions before 2017 FA begins.

At this point any Butler trade likely includes a future Nets pick and probably a guy like Crowder/Bradley. No thanks. Unless Durant explicitly says he wants Butler but so far we don't know that.

I will say we may still have a shot at Noel. If the Sixers realize their logjam they could acquire a future non-BKN pick from Boston and a few young players the Celtics have. The Celtics essentially get a rental in Noel who does provide the one thing we lack, rim protection.

How about Dwight and Dirk, both on 1+1 contracts.  Adds rebounding, shooting, and rim protection.  And keeps DA in control of salaries for next year.

Dirk says he'll field offers if Mavs go young.

I would much rather revisit the Noel trade then throw $25 million a year at Dwight Howard and give away half our cap room.

True, but depends if Philly makes him available. On paper he should be available but depends on the FO.

They still need guards. We still have an overabundance of guards, although the one I'd trade would cause half this board to have an aneurysm.

As I said elsewhere, I am down with signing both Horford and Howard providing that Howard is a one and one contract that preserves Boston's ability to add a franchise max guy next year. Actually think the C's would see another successful growth year(more wins/deeper playoff run) by adding both. Then after the season you can add another top 5 pick to a franchise max free agent while dropping Howard and then become a contender in 2017-18
