It's interesting to look back at top five drafts picks who were selected by playoff teams (like the Celtics this year with #3).  It is quite a rarity.   I may have missed one, but based on my quick analysis, the last one was Darko in 2003.

The relevance to this topic is that typically top 5 picks find themselves playing for terrible teams.  The result is often that they are handed minutes and fairly often find themselves with significant minutes in their rookie seasons -- whether or not they are really ready for it.

Brown is in the unique position of joining a playoff team that is fairly deep in rotation players.  It is highly unlikely that he takes any of Jae's minutes -- at least not early on.  Also unlikely to get too many minutes at the 4 or 2 unless match-ups make sense or foul trouble or injury plays a role.

On the plus side, Brown will not have the pressure of having to take a leadership role in his first season.  On the possible down side -- he'll be competing for minutes and if he adjusts slowly he may find himself sitting quite a bit.

I HOPE he's getting 15-20 MPG because I think that will signify that he's contributing.  That's all you can hope for from a raw 19/20 yo.

Probably 20. Don't have much depth behind Crowder, though he's not as ready to contribute as Smart who averaged over 27 both years.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

First, I doubt he sees much of the D-League. He will be fast tracked similar to Marcus if he hadn't
gotten injured his rookie season.

His avg for the season will be 18/24, but he'll start out around 10 mins. He'll probably see
most paired with Smart who can make up for his defensive inexperience. After he learns
how to stay on the court he'll gradually improve on his offense enough to spell Crowder.
By the end of the regular season he'll be a steady contributor on both sides of the court,
not nearly a finished product... 8pts/.410% 78FT% 1.3AST .8TO... If he stay's healthy.

Like Rozier last season, he will get some PO mins to build on for 2017-18

All this and I thought he was a reach a #3

Can't see him earning too many minutes in the early goings, as Smart, Bradley and IT all deserve 30+ mpg, along with rozier maybe getting 15-20mins too. I think Smart will play a fair bit of SF this year to cover some of Turners role.

Considering ET got 27mpg last season, I see Smart getting 31mins (+4), Rozier getting 18 (+10), and Brown taking what ever is left with 8-12mins.

Hopefully Brown is better than Dunn 3 years from now when he's Dunn's age.

I'll guess 15 minutes a game at SF/SG in specific matchups.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I say he will average 20min per game for the last 10 games of season.

He will play more minutes at 19 than Dunn did in the NBA and so will James Young too.
