I voted no.  What we should really, do, imo, is trade Smart and Young to the Sixers for their two firsts at 24 and 26, and if we could get their second rounder for next year, do it, but 24 and 26 would be great.

BEAT LA!! Your back! Of course, it's draft time after all.

Smart is worth WAY more than two very late 1sts, that's such a ridiculous notion I won't even address it.

Great to have you back man.

Thanks, it's great to see you, too :), TP.  You really think it's that ridiculous, huh?  Yeah, I figured that that sentiment wouldn't be popular, but that's fine.  What do you think we could get for him, in terms of picks?

you see Noel as worth less than the 2 more late first round picks?

We already have 4 picks in the 16-35 range this year. Do we really need 2 more? Smart for 2 late firsts is the opposite of asset consolidation.

It's not as much about Noel as it is about the depth of this draft (which is loaded, imo), and yes, we do need 2 more firsts.  I'm not interested in asset consolidation.  We need a whole new roster, and Smart for those picks would be fair for both teams, right?  I'll admit, I don't like Smart, but I don't think I'm undervaluing him, although that is probably an unpopular opinion on here.  I realize that he was the 6th pick in the draft, but I think we can get better players than him at 23, 24, and 26.

This is out of hand. "We need a whole new roster" really? You badly overrate draft picks. 90% of picks in the 20's do not become starting caliber NBA players.

Never tell me the odds! ;D

All joking aside, yes, if we want to get back on the road to contention, we need to hit the reset button asap.  I wish things weren't like this, but they are (well, to me, anyway :-\), and while those stats don't look good on paper, I look at it differently, because every draft is different.  Those statistics remind me of the 'every ten seconds an acre in the rain forest is cut down' or 'every 3 seconds, a burglary takes place' when the reality is that neither is the case.  They are simply the averages of said destruction of planet and home conveyed in a way to make it seem more real and resonate better with people.  Some drafts, like 2013, are impossibly weak, and some, like last year's, yielded a contributor at 46 in Norman Powell to the Raptors, so it's all about the draft class as opposed to averages, imo.  This senior class, alone, is loaded, imo, which is quite rare in today's day and age, and I honestly feel that we can get much better players, and in one fell swoop, at that, in this year's draft, even as late as 58.  As has been mentioned many times, we have valuable players, albeit not foundation ones, in Isaiah, Bradley, and Serena Williams (sarcasm) who are all on good contracts, and we should trade them all for first rounders in this and next year's drafts.  For example, if Phoenix wants Bender, trade 3 and Isaiah for 3, 13, and 34 (possibly 28).  Pretty loco, huh? ;)

Come on Danny, shake those assets (sarcasm) ::) ;D.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
No. I don't think Noel has the defensive upside that we'd be hoping for vs Smart's overall impact.
If Smart was a 4th year player entering the end of his rookie deal I'd consider it if he hadn't improved his shooting from this season-but he's only going into his 3rd year now.

Noel has 1 season on his deal too, Smart has 2.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Our perimeter defense is fine with Bradley, Crowder, and even some minutes from Rozier. Noel would solidify our interior defense and still would leave our entire draft intact to improve our shooting woes either through the picks themselves and/or trades.

What's interesting about this idea to me is thinking about if the C's would do it. If they thought that was fair value along with the fact they thing someone like Hield or Murray is their best option at #3 than this would be a no brainer.
