I will keep this short since I have to be leaving for work here soon...

#2 pick, Russell, Randle, and cap filler for a superstar.

Cousins?  George?  Butler?

I could see Chicago taking this deal and hitting the reset button.  Indy maybe as well.  Pairing three young players with Turner would be a step back right now, but a big step forward for the future.

I hate LA as much as anyone on this forum, but imagine if they signed Derozan and landed either George or Cousins?  They are (unfortunately) in a great place to make a big move.

Should be an interesting draft night.  Maybe we will get lucky and they will trade #2 to the Kings and Sacramento will draft Dunn or Bender!

They certainly can put a decent package together. I almost hope they do it, I think it would set them back in the long term. They aren't beating GS or Spurs by gutting their roster for one star and hoping for another in FA.

Let's say they trade for Cousins and get DeRozan in FA, what's their ceiling, 2nd round?

Lol, why would the lakers break their core now? All they have to do is add Ingram or Simmons and watch it play out. Free agency is no big deal for them because everyone wants to be in LA. They should be patient. They can't mess up now lol because these trades won't do much in the long run. I hope they actually make the playoffs this year because well, we don't want them taking all the future talent and their luck in the lottery is ridiculous xD I'm not sure but I think they owe their pick next year etc. Anyway there is a possibility too that bender or anyone else can prove Mitch that they are worth the top 2. Nevertheless they should be building on their core just like us and drafting talent is the best way and they can then hit the free agency for more. If they trade, it will probably be because they want to make the playoffs for once lol but risky

Jim Buss has one year to make the 2nd round or he loses control of the team to Jeanie... apparently. So that would be why they might make a trade

I think this is what you're referring to:

#2 pick, Russell, Randle, and cap filler for a superstar?

So they would trade all three of their young nucleus for one player? I'm skeptical.

The #2 pick could be a conundrum for them, on the other hand. If the Sixers take Ingram (I think they should) then do the Lakers take Simmons? - because he plays the same position as Randle, and needs the ball like Russell.

Randle played some 5 this season - weighs 250 - but if you play him with Simmons there's a spacing issue. To those who say that Randle can't guard a chair, I say, "Don't be silly, of course he can. You're thinking of D'Angelo Russell."

As I think about it, I've actually warmed a little to your proposal.

If the lakers give up the pick and the "core" it will be for a player Like Anthony Davis (if he were available).  The Lakers are not known to retool... they go after all stars established in one city but unhappy in their own situation...

I was thinking that they could  trade for a big name player (maybe someone like Cousins for example ) and sign a free agent (Derozan is linked to them it seems) and at that point they would probably be pretty attractive to other players.

They could potentially use the #2 pick, Randle, and Russell to kick start a quick rebuild.

Or rather, rerebuild.

In all seriousness, the chances of that particular package being traded are vanishingly small.

Why wouldn't you drastically improve you're team for the long term with the moves you mentioned even if those moves alone don't make you a contender.? Next year, with all the cap space they will still have they might be able to sign someone like Westbrook or Durant (if he signs a one year contract this year). At that point, they will have become a contender.

I think this is what you're referring to:

Well, that's unambiguous. I'd say that they're not on track.

Interesting.

Neither team would do this, but hypothetically would you trade all of Boston's secondary picks this year (#16, #23, #31, #35, #45, #51, #58) to Philly for the Lakers top 3 protected 2017 1st (unprotected in 2018)?

Best case scenario it's #4 next year (or top 3 in 2018)... worst-case scenario they make a quick turnaround and the pick ends up worse than #16 by itself.
