Will Danny Trade the Top Pick for a player who has had serious injury issues?

Assuming the pick is 3-6, it seems quite possible that Danny will attempt to trade that pick for the player he wanted to acquire in February before the deal fell apart. Judging from his previous decisions he might be more than willing to trade for a player with a checkered injury history.

A list of injury prone players he brought in included; LaFrentz, Baker (substance abuse), Gugliotta, Szczerbiak, Bill Walker, Tony Delk, Sully and most recently Amir Johnson.   

Presumably the February trade proposal was for one of the 76's big men, i.e., Embiid, Noel or Okafor. Or, other names floated about,e.g., Howard, Horford, Love, Griffin, Marc Gasol, Butler, Cousins, Harden and Jordan.

Howard and Horford will either be (or could be) free agents this summer...no trade there.

The 76's big men all have had knee surgery. I believe Embiid is working on number 3. Will Danny take his chances with any of them? Seems plausible.

Butler also had his knee woes this season and not a good reputation as a teammate. According to the media...he's the most likely target.
 
Gasol is getting old and has foot problems...I doubt Danny would consider trading for him.

Love is still in the mix....He's had a couple surgeries on his hands. Seems healthy now, but after watching Lee this year, I doubt Danny is looking for another aging star. (I know he's not that old.)

Cousins, Harden and Jordan are relatively healthy as far as I know. Thus, it's unlikely teams would be willing to trade any of them away. That leaves the 76 players and Butler. My feeling is that if the ping pong balls fall a certain way, it's likely one of them will be on the Celtics next fall.

There just arent a ton of players who at somenpoint havent had some type,of injury in their careers. All you can do is trade for them and hope they pass their physical and that your medical team clears them for long term health. Certainly you have to have concern with players that have had multiple problems with injury but if they have you generally are trading less for,them anyway.

afaik Okafor's surgery (meniscus iirc) was nothing particularly worrying. Embiid ofc is an entirely different case.

I'd trade the pick if outside of the top 2 for Okafor (though I do like Hield/Murray). I think he'd be a really good player here

Of all those players I want Okafor the most although I don't think I'd trade the 1 or 2 pick for him.

Whatever injuries you're referring to, he played 79 games and distinguished himself in the playoffs.

Embiid has had two foot surgeries, not knee. You seem to be saying that he'll have a third but it certainly has not been announced. Navicular bone stress fracture is not a good sign, on the other hand.

Also an injury to the navicular, but entirely different prognosis. Your expression "foot problems" suggests a chronic issue, but that is not the case here; he simply broke the bone in a game - it's not a stress fracture.  Recovery is on schedule, and the bone circulation is good.

He turns 32 in January - true that he's out of phase with the other Celtics in age; but he does have what Ainge likes in a big man, and his skill set should wear well (apropos, his brother just had yet another great year). Contrast with Dwight in both aspects...

Amir had foot issues in Toronto. Danny took a chance on him. This past season he had plantar fasciitis and it bothered during the season.

Embiid had back surgery too. Doesn't seem to be an issue...but you never know.

As for his foot problem I agree, its not a good sign, stress fractures with screws to fix them are worrisome.

If the pick is outside the top-2 I would trade it for the right star.

The thing is it's never that simple. You aren't getting one of those guys for just a pick. Players will likely be involved and that's when it starts to become difficult
