Hield & Poeltl -- would you be happy?

Supposing we don't have a top 2 pick, I worry a little about Bender, Brown and Ellenson (raw) or Dunn (don't need a PG).

I know these two guys are sometimes considered slightly lower upside, but if we walked away with something like Hield (~#5) and Poeltl (~#9, trade up from the Dallas pick) what would people think?

We're getting a clear-cut scoring SG, and a legitimate defensive 7 footer who rebounds and shoots a high percentage with a close range game. Those are two things we lack that could have an immediate impact. Both guys are 2 way players who project at least as starters, with some chance of All-Star level, and are advanced enough to play as rookies IMO, at least in the rotation by later in the year.

We'd have this very tight salary "floor" before free agents:

core: Thomas, Smart, Bradley, Hield, Crowder, Olynyk, Poeltl
bench: Mickey, Rozier, Hunter, Young
= about $33M

options: Sully (RFA), Zeller (RFA), Turner (UFA), Amir (team option)

Deal might be something like #15, #24, #31 and Young or Hunter for #9. Might have to add a future 1st. It's a lot maybe for Poeltl, but that's what we have extra assets for.

Both are on my shortlist. Both will likely unavailable by the time our second first-rounders rolls around, so this is a very optimistic scenario.

Although I guess I'd prefer Murray to Hield -- but I won't pretend I follow college basketball closely, so there's that.

There MIGHT be a rotation player - if you lose one of current top9 AND

Fail to acquire a vet difference maker

Nobody in this draft takes celts from 47 wins to 50+

Four 1st round picks for Poetl?  What is he the next justice winslow?  LOL.  Too steep a price to pay.

A lot of bigs in this draft.  I wonder if Bender is as good as people think.  I just can't picture him being as good as Porzingis, if he was, I'd draft him in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't be thrilled with trading lots of picks to move up for Hield. He's old, not very athletic, undersized, only became a great shooter this year, handles are nothing special... does he really project as someone who can reliably create offense against NBA defenders? I would rather have Demetrius Jackson, who's super super athletic and also a good shooter. I'd be happy with Poeltl though--I think he'll have a career similar to Andrew Bogut, which is a happy outcome with a pick around #5.

Hield and Poeltl would be a nice outcome if we can't get Ingram or Simmons or trade for an All-Star caliber talent.

Those two prospects seem like they ought to make an impact right away, and they each fill a pretty major need.

I think the scenario you outline -- using the Nets pick and then bundling our next three picks plus Hunter or Young to move up into the top 10 -- makes sense and is fairly likely.

Poeltl doesn't seem like the kind of guy Ainge goes after, though.  More likely he'd pounce on Brown if he falls, or maybe Ellenson or Skal (the last one would make me choke).

I would rather draft Murray because he is already really good as a freshman. And I don't want Poeltl

I'd rather end up with Hield and Sabonis.  No trading up necessary on that one.

 Hield may not be tall, but he's 6'4.5" with shoes and that's talker longer than Jackson at 6'1" we just can't add an higher 6'1" guy.
