Even though KG and Melo are completely different players, both were unfairly criticized as losing players despite leading their teams to the playoffs almost every season. They cannot control what their management does.

KG was no longer considered a loser once he won a chip, and the same same will be said for Melo if he wins a chip with Boston.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Melo is just too old  for us to give up anything of value for him.
We trade for Melo if we get Durant or another superstar.
Melo is an injury prone, aging, declining, high usage player.
He has become more generous with sharing the ball this year, but at this stage the only way we even consider getting Melo is if we have a real top 10 player here already.
Eg Durant signs as a free agent, and we give up a future Brooklyn pick+young guys for Melo as the final piece.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

even if he wasn't getting old, he's been way overrated his whole career. I can't believe there's some out there still convinced melo is something to talk about.

he's done nothing with his opportunities.

His game is fading just like Lebron, oh, they will still have a few good years, but I 'd rather get a guy like Butler from CHI.

My first reaction is that he would be a short term addition and not the sort of player (considering age and injuries) you get to build a team to compete over a number of years.

If he was signed with other 'superstars' and helped make Boston a contender from next season, I could see a role for 2 or 3 seasons getting the dynasty going while some of the younger players matured and the picks turned into actual playing assets.
