Hunter has all the skills to ultimately stick around. It's shocking how bad his shot is. There were signs of this in college, but people let him off the hook saying he was carrying the team and had to chuck up a lot of low percentage threes. He better be working at it.
On the other hand, rookies are naturally nervous and these guys are coming into the league younger and younger.
I never imagined that Avery Bradley knew how to shoot. When Brad first started training him as a mini-Kobe ball hog, I didn't understand what was going on. Or I was thinking, wow, we are really bad now. I mention this because maybe RJ Hunter deserves some slack for his lousy shooting.
James Young is sort of the opposite. He is not well-rounded in all facets of the game. Hunter blocks shots, gets steals, rebounds. I am not saying Hunter has been great, but he was sort of similar to the Datome role. Now if we are to be serious, we should have kept Pressey and Datome. Rookies are usually useless. You have to either play them at the beginning and let them grow into it or take it slow by sending them to the end of the bench or Maine, though maybe not as slow as James Young seems to be going. I can see Young being a great shooter. Neither guy really stands out as in if we lost them, we would automatically regret it. If you trade Bradley, Smart, Olynyk, Thomas, or Crowder, you are asking for a beating from the basketball gods.
