Let's say luck doesn't pan out and we end up with a draft pick between 4-6 on draft night. We are all aware of our situation with regard to roster size next year. If we can't consolidate how about using our pick as a draft and stash with Bender. He's probably a year away from being able to make an impact in the NBA anyway and in the 4-6 range he is one of the better options.

I'm assuming that he would be open to it, a big assumption. I can also imagine people not being happy using our highest draft pick in a decade and not seeing him straight away. But in the long run he could turn out to be a better player than Dunn or Brown or Ellenson so why not?

I doubt we stash a guy who is averaging 4 PPG overseas.

If you get the number 2 pick then sure. I think it's obvious that 1 and 2 are Simmons and Ingram. After that it gets interesting and its probably too early to tell. Would Korkmaz last until either our pick or the Dallas pick?

After drafting Summons then Ingram I view a draft and stash of Bender as the best case draft scenario and would take him at any pick after #2. Bender will still be 18 when drafted if the Cs pick up his rights and can then let him develop for 1-2 seasons while not occupying a roster spot I think this is a win for the franchise. Most GMs would not have the luxury of stashing such a high pick and in the past this has lead elite euro prospects to fall (saric and Mirotic). The Cs are such a stable franchise that DA can confidently wait for Bender to join the team.

With Bender stashed this takes the pressure off to bring in the #3 pick and play him right away. The Cs front court will likely see some major changes this off-season with Sully and Zeller and restricted FA, Lee likely gone, and Amir/Jonas being team options. That just leaves KO and Mickey. My early prediction is that DA trys to sign and trade Sully, retains Zeller, and works really hard to package non nets picks, Amir and Jonas for a big man upgrade. All of this potential change could leave a playoff team like the Cs in a better position stashing an 18 year old 215 lb 7' PF rather then forcing him into a high pressure position.

Ainge's next European draft pick will be his first (save for Semih Erden, 60th overall). In other words, don't count on it.

Bender is a high risk pick:  I don't want the Celtics to pick him.  He reminds me of Kwame Brown:  big, fluid, tons of talent: but talent is not enough (see Jeff Green).   The best players are the nearly insanely competitive players with talent (see Kevin Garnett).  For example also, Al Jefferson, who is a good player used to score 40 - 50 points a game in high school.  People said, its only high school.  But if Bender hasn't used his height and talent to score more than 4 points per game, how can you know he has the character to do it.

I think that for their draft picks, the Celtics like to see production.  KO is enough skinny power forward for one team.  Celtics need some power up front.

I see us trading down if we don't get the first or second pick. Long way to go until draft some of these other Freshman have time to show what they can do. But at the moment I would see what someone would give for 3 or 4th pick.
