At the end of the game Amir was fouled intentionally after a made ft. Was that legal? I haven't seen it before but if it is legal why doesn't everyone do it every time they need to foul and don't want to have to foul a guard on the inbound? If it was a legal move they should really consider changing that for next year. I'm so glad we won the game because I would have been livid had we lost. this and the Crowder T.

I saw that before this season when CP3 jumped on D-Howards back, right after the free throws, so I guess it's legal. The same as they would foul Deandre Jordan when they hug him at the center of the court...

That late in the game Amir should have gone down to the floor grabbing his back.  Make them call a flagrant foul.  If not, leave the game and let them pick who shoots the free throw off our bench.  I think we had a pretty good group of free throw shooters down there.

I saw that and was scratching my head when Mike and Scal were saying it had to happen before the FT went through the hoop so that it wasn't called an intentional.  the way I understood it, the Wizards were able to pick whoever they wanted to shoot the FTs which made no sense to me.   brilliant play on the Wizards part though

It made no sense to me that a foul called on a team would then give the team that commits the foul the advantage of choosing who they want to shoot the FTs.  Someone PLEASE explain the rationale for that -- I foul you and then I get to choose your FT shooter.  It would actually make MUCH more sense that if I foul you in a pre-inbound situation the team that is fouled gets to select the FT shooter.  Please explain why the foul perpetrator earns an advantage.

totally silly rule. There are so many things that can be done to neutralize the obvious attempt at gamesmanship..

Commenting on the thread title, all fouls are illegal.

I thought that was more down to the choice of words Gorman and Scal used?

As in Washington were using the tactic and had a player intentionally foul Amir sending him to the FT line. I don't think the rule is just foul anyone on the court then select who they want at the FT line.

that would make more sense.  so in essence, by fouling their person of choice, they're selecting who goes to the line.  considering how many bad FT shooters there are in the game, I would not be surprised to see this tactic occur more frequently

Great explanation -- thanks!!   It didn't sound like that's what Gorman meant, but your post clears it up.  TP

I'm not sure of the confusion here. No one selected the free throw shooter for the Cs. Amir got fouled and he went to the line. Since the ball is "in play" whomever it was goes "over the back" and it's a regular two shot foul. If the player jumped over the back after the ball went through the hoop that's when it becomes a dead ball foul.

I'm not discussing whether I like it or not but since there isn't any rule in place stopping it, it's a smart move by teams. Takes no time off the clock and fouls the teams worst shooter.
