So it's protected 1 through 12 next year but it says via Phoenix, does that mean we really want Phoenix to lose and not Minnesota?

No it means Phoenix gave us the Minny pick from the Brandan Wright deal.

Wolves will have to make a big jump to be 13th. I really don't see it. Their young guys need more time before it's a team in playoff contention.

they would need to make the western playoffs to give us a first right? i will hope they make it while knowing that we are getting 2 2nds instead.

Obviously the first would be preferable, on its face, to the two 2nds...But we are reaching a point of saturation with picks. We potentially have eight picks this year if we include the Minny first  (4 firsts and 4 seconds). And unless a move is made before the trade deadline, Danny's is going to have very weak leverage if every GM knows we cant possibly integrate all our picks. Long story short, I'm not rooting too hard for Minnesota (though they have a helluva core)...

No, they could just miss out like the Thunder and Suns did last year. They finished 9th and 10th in the conference last season and secured the #13 and #14 picks.

The east would have to be horrible this year to let Minny be a top 13 team in the nba, while also missing the playoffs.

The #13 pick isn't the 13th best team, it's roughly the 18th best.  With the disparity between the conferences the team that gets that slot is usually more like the 15th or 16th best.

Good catch. I misread what I said. Thought he meant them having the 13 pick.
