My parents live in a town of 650 in extremely rural Southern Illinois. Their house is in the middle of a river bottoms, and the nearest neighbors are roughly two miles away. It's a pretty ideal spot for a worst-case scenario with plenty of game, water, and cover to stay protected. Getting there from across the country would be the big issue.

I've been a pretty active outdoorsy-type my whole life, and I'm pretty confident in my abilities to hunt, trap, fish, build make-shift shelters, etc. since I've been doing it my whole life.

What scares me is trying to do any of that on the move or without modern equipment available. For example, even with modern trapping equipment, it is extremely difficult to trap game. Trying to do it with make-shift snares and other types of traps is almost inconceivable to me, let alone trying primitive fire-starting or anything like that.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

My plan for SHTF is simply stocking up on bullets and alcohol. You can trade for anything via bullets and alcohol. And if things get bad you always have bullets to use in a fight and alcohol to drink to lighten the stress. Stock up fellow preppers.

Good God... is there a HOF award for a single post? This is easily my nomination.

Well, I'd die, probably. Same as if there isn't a disaster or 'terror event.' Maybe a little less comfortably, maybe more.

Not that it isn't good to be aware of what to do if, say, the power goes out for two weeks or a month, but a lot of the extreme stuff is just overactive imaginations and paranoia.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I will try to keep in mind Mike Tyson's statement (which I find to be the greatest sports quote ever)

"I'll survive. Of course I'm gonna survive. The only way I won't survive is if I'm dead or something"
