Bucher also said the Nets have taken Johnson off the market and that would suggest that Prokhorov is all in because he wants a competitive team but one that is more financially responsible than the one that they had.

In other words, no one, Cleveland included, wanted to pay $25 million for Joe Johnson this year.

Not only pay Joe Johnson $25mil, but any team paying JJ that much is probably a tax payer and could be paying tax on his contract.  Would Cleveland be paying $50 mil for him in actual dollars?

If you figure they're already way over the tax, and they'd be paying an extra $15 million in salary compared to just waiving Haywood, I'd bet their commitment would be north of $50 million for him.

That's good news! Can't wait for that to break dividends with a lottery 1st-round pick!

Philly could eat his entire contract.  Brooklyn just has nothing of value to offer to get Philly to do it and JJ does do anything for Philly in its current state.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I personally really would be surprised if Joe Johnson is lasts the year in Brooklyn. As presently constituted they could maybe win 35 games if everything breaks right. Their draft pick to us is a sunk cost, aside from their egos, it really doesn't matter whether they give us the 15th pick or the 5th. So do we really think sometime in January with the chance to knock millions off their cap in a trade they are gonna keep him on the books for the rest of the year? At that point even getting a second round pick for him would be a good and smart deal for him. He is 35 years old. I would take it even further and say I will actually be surprised if Johnson doesn't negotiate a buyout or ask to be traded partway through the year. He probably has two or three years max playing in the NBA and I highly doubt it he wants to spend one of them playing for a 10th place team. After the Williams move there really isnt a different way.

The only thing JJ has to offer Philly is winning a few more games... and we all know Philly doesn't want that! ;D

Fine by me. Johnson has been slipping more and more every year and I don't think he's winning them games anymore but is reputation will probably demand minutes which will lead to losses and a high pick.

Agree with all this ......he certainly
won't be better next season.......his energy level is poor anyway ......without a goal of a title .....I don't expect a lot out of him......if he DRIVEN to WIN .....he press to get on a contender ......he is like Jeff Green  happy to earn a big paycheck

his scoring dipped last year. and another year it should dip again. he is no longer an all-star calibar player.

Nets look horrible. If/when lopez misses games we are looking at one of the worst teams.
