Don't worry guys, Ainge isn't done.

He's gonna trade Bradley, Sullinger, and Wallace for Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler.

Loadin' up on expiring guys in their mid to late 20s who will help the team secure a win total in the 40-45 range.

Personally, I would actually like this trade.

I'd rather be in the playoffs than be a 25 win team and give major minutes to unproven, raw rookies.

I'm fine with Ainge being patient and not leveraging all of the assets of the team unless he thinks the guy he's getting will be really good.

My issue is, if you're not going to make some moves to steer this thing upward, what is the point of maintaining the course right back to the same place again -- the middle?  I don't understand that.

We just spent a week agonizing over Ainge's inability to move up to take a prospect he really liked because we finished outside of the top 10 with very little to show for it.  Now Ainge is making moves that apparently will put us in the same predicament a year from now. 

Is free agency going to go so much better next year? 

Is another team going to want to trade us a star for a fist-full of middling assets next year?

I'll take playing for the playoffs over playing for the draft and drafting an unknown commodity any day of the week!

Why sign Johnson at all? I'm not excited about another bridge year, but if that's what we're in for, and we can't get a difference maker to move the needle much this year, why not just ride it out with basically what we already had, and keep developing the younger guys? If the goal is simply filling out the roster, there are cheaper ways of doing it.

We have cap room and we can cut him after a year.

Ainge and Stevens want to be competitive actually.

If Johnson just takes Bass' minutes that's good for us.

I'd rather have Bass, Bass is better IMO and would have cost less.

Sources from other teams and within the player rep community say the C's are also in play for Tobias Harris and Corey Brewer, but in those cases the club is said to have its limits. There are salary and length-of-contract parameters for each that Boston will not exceed.

It is interesting to note that, from all accounts, the Celtics have had no contact at all with several other free agents with whom they've been linked in media reports.

In some of these cases, it's said to be because they are not particularly fond of the player's game, while in others it's because they've become aware the player is seeking more than they are willing to spend -- and may get it elsewhere in the open market.

Important: Reason C's not pursuing some FA isn't because they don't like them, but b/c can't afford them and stay in line for bigger move.

well, i am stepping outside my area of expertise, but it seems that CBS plays a game of basketball that doesnt follow the traditional c, pf, sf, sg, pg format. as greece666 posted some days ago, CBS wants a team that has players who switch, or swing. it seems to create different mismatches that he can exploit.

lets face it, with mediocre talent CBS coached the celtics into the playoffs, and though swept, they fought and were in the games until late. it was fun basketball to watch.

so, imagine some combo of sully, jerebko, crowder, johnson, and olly being "bigs" who are largely interchangeable, but provide COMBINATIONS of players who can match up well with COMBINATIONS of opposing players.

same with pg/sg/sf positions. each player is less important than how they create COMBINATIONS of "shorts".  smart, AB, IT, rozier, young, and hunter may be viewed as how they fit together when facing other teams' combinations. that might also explain the recent draft picks. they all can play multiple positions.

i am sure i am missing a LOT of CBS plan, but i think  amir johnson has talent, and ainge and CBS think he has the type of talent to create a combination of players that is effective.

so, no super star yet, but there is an increased level of talent for CBS to work with.

this upcoming season should be fun.

It is premature to criticize the draft picks and free agent signings.

We will know how well constructed the team is when it is measured by its win total.

Until then, try to think about a great team - as opposed to being puffed up full of smoke over hyped up, overpaid "superstars".

By the way, the undrafted J. Holmes was probably the most versatile player in the whole stinking draft and could fit in nicely with the Celtics future plans.
