There's a lot of hate on here for Embiid and people rooting to see him end his career from injuries before it even starts. Very disappointing attitudes imo. The game needs talented big men, and he looks like a good kid. I know he's a Sixers player and lots of people rightfully hate Hinkie's strategy, but come on, its not Embiid's fault he's on that team.

I don't think anyone is hating Embiid, they're just pessimistic about his ability to even step on the court.

Agreed. At least that's my stance. I like Embiid, I thought he had a lot of potential at Kansas, but first the back stress fracture, then the foot stress fracture. It looks like there seems to be something wrong with his body. The ironic thing is that he hasn't even played much basketball in his life, taking up the game at a later age. How is he going to look like after taking in all the games, practices, travel of an NBA season year after year?

I don't feel bad for Hinkie or the Sixers at all. They gambled and took Embiid, knowing all the risks associated with him, and it's backfiring on them.
Nothing has backfired on them yet.  If Embiid were going to need a 2nd surgery, I think we'd know that already.  The Sixers took Embiid because he was by far the best player available.  Who else were they supposed to take?  Exum? Gordon? Smart? Randle?  lol

You really think we'd already know if he was going to have a 2nd surgery? What makes you say that? This was actually today…

As for Embiid, whose CT scan 2½ weeks ago showed the foot wasn't healing as expected and could require another surgery, Sims said he didn't dwell on how the 7-footer's status affected him.
“I hope Joel is healthy,” Sims said. “He's a young kid. I hate to see him hurt like this. We stay in contact about every two weeks. The NBA is so unpredictable. I don't let my mind wander.”

There were teams that wanted to move up to #3. They could've made a trade, drafted another player, and had more assets to work with. Especially after already having Noel sit out a year and looking like bad fit stylistically alongside Embiid.

Nobody (at least I hope nobody) ever hopes to see a playing's career end due to injuries - not young or old.

I'm not as big a fan of Embiid as most because I'm not one of those people who was "wowed" by his potential.  I see the way he moves, and to me he looks extremely raw and uncoordinated.  I look at his attitude / work ethic and from what I've seen it doesn't look that spectacular.  I look at his basketball IQ and I don't see much there either.

I look at Embiid and I see him two areas where he's pretty certain to be good - rebounding and rim protection.  Outside of that, I feel like everything else is a lucky dip.

I also see a lot of Bynum in him. He just looks to me like the type of guy who will have an overblown ego and frustrate coaches by following every great play with an equally dumb turnover / bad shot.

Could I be wrong?  Of course.  The guy hasn't played a single NBA, so nothing is certain yet (positive or negative). All we can do is guess / predict.

I hope he does end up as good as people say, but I just don't see it.

The fact that he has all of this medical history just hurts his potential (in my eyes) even more.

I don't know why you referenced a Henry Sims article.  He's not going to know what's going on with Embiid.  Embiid has seen several doctors so I think there would already be a consensus that a 2nd surgery was required.  I'm expecting a continued go slow approach with Embiid.  Hinkie said it was a 3 player draft and I agree with him.  Taking Okafor was the correct choice regardless of Embiid's situation.

I don't think Noel/Embiid is a bad fit.  Noel is built more like a PF and I think he has the necessary quickness.  The one time I remember Noel being overmatched was against Cousins who has too much bulk/strength over Noel.

I like Embiid as well, but during draft time I started getting scared had he slid to #6. Because of his injury and other red flags, I started comparing him to Oden, Yao Ming and other bigs PLAGUED with injuries.

I rather not take that risk on picking or trading for him.

You don't think teammates know what's going on with each other? If Simms and Embiid talk every couple of weeks, as stated, you don't think Embiid tells him exactly what he's being told?

Embiid and Noel are fine defensively, but I question them together on the other end because of the lack of spacing and both need to operate around the basket. I know Embiid is a better shooter than Noel, who's range is around the basket, but Embiid shooting mid to long range jumpers doesn't seem like something Philly would want.

Embiid is so much more talented than any NBA big man I have seen since Akeem. And has 4" on The Dream. If and when he is cleared, he is going to dominate the NBA.  Will compete with Anthony Davis on a regular basis for MVP.

Exaggerate much? Shaq? Duncan? Robinson? Ewing? Garnett? A. Davis?

Young Shaq's the most dominant player I've ever seen. It was ridiculous. His HS tape is nuts, dude is hitting pull-up 15 footers off the break.

At this point I would take a flier on Embid if it didn't cost too much. Eventually we need a dominant big.
