If Winslow is as good as Danny apparently thinks he is... how annoyed are you with Pat Riley?  Luckiest/best GM in the game?  Stuff just keeps falling in his lap.  Whether it's LeBron/Bosh... or possibly a franchise center out of freakin nowhere... or arguably a top 4 prospect at #10?... Dude... So lucky.

I actually doubt Winslow will be that good.  I just think it more speaks to how mediocre everything after #9 was.  Mostly worthless picks... might as well combine all of them and try to get someone with a real future.

Turner will have a great career imho. There were reports that reporters could literally feel the disappointment coming out of  Celtics HQ after the Heat took Winslow. Danny choked should have made that Hornets trade happen

He offered them like 4 picks and a good, young player on a cheap deal with retainment rights. They really wanted Kaminsky. He tried, idk what else he was supposed to do?

I wonder what he meant by "the price was way too high"? Did it have to invlove Smart?

I posted yesterday that I'm okay with not adding as to what looked like a mega offer for the #9. But the more I remember that we got 4 1st round picks in 2016, Smart, Olynyk, Sullinger, IT, Evan Turner, Bradley and the Brooklyn picks,  the more I think that there could very well be enough ammo to pull that off. Of course I don't know what Charlotte was asking for, but the more I just think thru it, the more I'm going "but Danny, isn't this why you collected assets in the first place? To, you know, cash them in?".

I'm guessing we would have taken Winslow at 4, which makes the failed Hornets trade hurt even more.

I doubt it.  I would have gone with Hezonja or Porzingis all the way.  More upside, even though Winslow's floor is prob. higher with his solid BBiQ and defense.

Oh I would too, but Ainge was clearly after Winslow last night. He also hasn't drafted a foreign guy other than Semih Erden.

This article confirms that Ainge was after Winslow at #4:

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4719666/no-justise-no-peace-celtics-plan-to-upgrade-continues

"The Celtics made a strong final push to multiple teams in spots 4-9 on draft day. It culminated with an all-in effort in attempt to get Charlotte to deliver the No. 9 pick with Boston lusting for Duke forward Justise Winslow (the same player it coveted while trying to shuffle higher)."

I would've thrown anybody Charlotte wanted on the roster for the #9, except for Smart. And I would've thrown a first rounder pick and some 2nd rounders as well too.

Bradley + Sully + 1st rounder next year? Or 2 2nd rounders? Those guys can contribute now and can help them win.

It's sad we couldn't make the deal for a player we really wanted, particularly when all we've been doing is hoarding assets to do just that.

  Best guess at the trade;

Boston;  Sully, Winslow, and a pick or 2

New York;  Porzingis, Hardaway

Hardaway was later traded to Atlanta for Jerian Grant who was selected at #19.

I can't get over the fact that Charlotte turned down all those picks for Frank Kaminsky.  It is truly mind boggling.

Actually Boston really wanted Hezonja, Winslow second. According to Chad Ford and Ryen Rusillo.

These are cocktail party jokes, not offers. Unless his offer for 9 included Smart and several picks, he didn't make any real offers yesterday that we are aware of.

This. It looks like Ainge is over valuing our "treasure chest" of picks.

Jackson did the right thing.

With Porzingis he got what he needed, a shot at a future all star.

This is a non-tradeable asset for the Knicks who need young talent so badly.

Are you guys kidding me?

Smart was the 6th pick in a good draft, and you would give him up plus picks for the 9th pick? I do agree our 'treasure chest' of picks are over valued by many though, inlcuding Ainge. The real value lies in the potential for our future picks from other teams and hoping they drop, like the Mavs, Nets, and Grizzlies. Again, they will all probably fall between 10-25 and using them to trade up may be the same as this year, hard to do.

My bad I thought it said for the 4th pick. No I would not have traded Smart for the 9th pick.
