  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
So to start off I want to say that I was really disappointed when the C's were not able to trade up for Winslow. I am really curious what the best offer they made was.

I have always been a pro playoff guy. I have always seen that situation as Isaiah was the difference between making the playoffs and the lottery. I was fine with having a worse pick because we had IT4. That is how I felt until Justise Winslow was picked at ten. Knowing what I know now, I would rather have not made that deal and draft Justise this year.

Unfortunately that decision has already been made and there is no going back. That trade was a crucial one in the how the Celtics develop long term. The draft, however was significantly less crucial in the process than that move. In other words not much has changed with this team between the day before the draft and the day after the draft.

Rozier is not who I would have picked at 16 had I been running the team, but in hindsight the type of pick they made is exactly what was expected. The C's, a team without a star went with who they believed to be the highest upside player on the board, a defensive first guy that fits their scheme perfectly. They then proceeded to draft the best available players at 28 and 33, guys who fit their needs for rim protection and shooting.

So in the end the C's did exactly what they should have, the best player available who fit their system and general needs. The same as before the draft, the C's are a team with young talent that will rely on other teams losing to get a transcendent piece.

Just like before the draft, the C's have a really good shot of winning the Atlantic next year and then improving with someone elses draft picks the following year. New York will rely on a skinny 19 year old Latvian, and a super star coming off a season ending injury, with little else to help a playoff push. The Raptors ended the season in disarray and probably will be broken up via trade next year. The 76ers improved with Okafor but they still aren't ready to chase a playoff spot, let alone compete for the division. The Nets traded their only quality big man under contract, and could be completely screwed if Lopez/Young leave.

In other words, everything might not be as bleak as it seemed when we were unable to trade for Winslow and then reached for Rozier.

P.S.- I know this is kind of long so anyone who reads gets a tp.

"Nothing has really changed."

Not a good thing to say about your team after draft night, especially when your team has one of the least talented rosters in the league.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I guess I don't agree with the least talented rosters in the league premise.

I think once the season starts we will have the best roster in the Atlantic, with the ability to improve on that through potential lottery picks from the Nets (should be worse than last year), Mavs (should be worse than last year) and T-Wolves (might be good enough to convey their pick).
