I think we need to seriously have this conversation now.

I feel like there's an invisible wall between "liquid" assets like top 10 picks, equivalent prospects, or all-star level players, who have solid value in any transaction, and then "marginal" assets like mid-late first rounders and role players. No matter how many marginal assets you have, it's very difficult to secure a liquid assets. In simple parlance, Evem 10 dimes won't get you a dollar.

Out of our entire stash of assets, I feel like Marcus Smart, the two Brooklyn picks (and maybe our own picks depending on the direction we go next season), and maybe Isaiah Thomas are the only assets that even remotely approach liquid status.

I hate tanking as much as any sane fan should, but if it is indeed the case that no amount of #16 picks or Avery Bradleys or Dallas 1sts will get you to any asset that has a chance of converting to a foundational player, maybe the Philly method is the way to go. What's the point of stockpiling a "treasure trove" while staying respectable if it can't even bump you up the 4~5 slots you needed to draft someone like Myles Turner? I hate it and I wish it wasn't so, but maybe that's the direction rebuilding in the NBA is going in.

The "treasure trove" is about as valuable as the treasure trove that you could pick a toy from at the dentist as a kid.

Having said that, it is impressive that Danny has been able to do what he has done given our greedy ownership, but realistically, our assets are useless unless we hit on one of the picks.

So now that we know what we have, let's hope one of the draftees pans out.
Truuuuuuuuuth!

I think it's safe to say at this juncture that having such great "assets" at our disposal is turning into a myth.

In the last 2 years, we haven't been able to turn any of these so called assets into anything with the exception of Isaiah Thomas and this was the case tonight.

We may have accumulated a lot of picks but I think right now the rest of the league views them like a series of used cars rather than a brand new Hummer that they just need to give up their best player for.

I mean we don't even know how valuable the Nets picks are going to be. For all we know they could both end up being in the late teens, early 20s.

So at this point, I don't see how we are in any more of an enviable position than any other team in the NBA

None of our players are great assets.

Our own future picks are not great assets either since making the playoffs.

Best assets are the future Brooklyn picks. Maybe Mavs or Grizzlies picks if things go badly for them in the summer. Future is dependent on things going badly for those teams.

Trade coffers are pretty bare outside of those future picks by non-Celtics teams.

A few months ago, I said this team reminded me of those Jerry West Memphis Grizzly teams. They were a better group and had a legit star in Pau Gasol but desperately needed a 2nd star to go with him and that is where they remind me of this Celtics team.

They had lots of quality role players who were valued and well respected around the league (Shane Battier, Mike Miller, James Posey, Jason Williams, etc.) but nobody was giving up a star for a trade package of multiple role players & middling future 1st round picks. They had no young players with star talent so their trade opportunities were limited.

Jerry West said his orders were to get the team to the playoffs as quick as possible. Not to build a title contender. That if he was building a title contender he would have been more patient and continued to build through the draft and waited to move forward until his team had more young up-and-coming talent around Pau Gasol.

Anyway, the situation is not quite as dire as Memphis because Boston does own those future picks by Brooklyn and Co. .... but they do remind of this Boston team in so far as their stock of quality assets (mostly role players) while respected and valued for what they were ... simply are not what teams want when giving up star talent.

Welcome to what I've been saying for two years. It's nice to see the light bulb going off in people's heads. Mid round picks are worth nothing in the NBA. In fact I would even wager that if the Nets have the same roster as they do now then those picks aren't going to even hit. Yeah we get to control the draft future of the Nets for the next three years but the drawback is that it's Danny Ainge making the picks.

Wyc spore of "unbelievable offers" being rejected and implied those included a future 1st. It would be curious to know the offers made.

If Charlotte rejected 16 + Celtics 2016 1st + random 2nd rounders to draft Frank Kaminsky, I guess there is nothing you can really do.

Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

I say it's full on HINKIE TIME!  Sell the farm, play all Red Claws and draft some potential stars and start all over again!
