The problem with that is nobody plays all 12 players!

Tell that to all of our injury riddled teams from the big-3 era, who often struggled to have 8 rotation-quality players on the active roster.

Tell it to the Cavs, who just lost the finals because Love and Irving went down to injuries.

Every team need a star or two, but don't underestimate the value of quality depth.  If Clevleand added an Avery Bradley, an Evan Turner and a Jared Sullinger to their roster instead of adding Kevin Love (for the same type of money) then there's a good chance Lebron has another championship ring right now.  Even after Irving went down, that would have been three extra skilled rotation players who could have given Lebron some legitimate help.  Instead Cavs invested everything they had in three guys - two of those guys got hurt, and it cost Cleveland a very good shot at a championship.

Investing all of your money into 2 or 3 superstar players (then surrounding them with garbage) is a legitimate way to build an NBA team - but it's also very high risk.  If you get lucky and none of those guys get hurt, then you're giving yourself an unquestionable shot at a title.  If you get unlucky and a couple of those guys do get hurt, then you're hopes of a ring dissapear.

Golden state had the perfect balance on their roster.  They had one or two legitimate stars (Curry and Thompson) surrounded by a ton of depth.  They were covered on both fronts - if Thompson got hurt, for arguments sake, they still have the talent to give themselves a chance.

You cannot win a title with just role players, but it's hard to win a title with just stars too.  You need balance.

I'm sick

He did nothing to help this team

Picking a bunch of scrub guards makes no sense at all.

I know what players you like. I think Rozier is one of them. Plays tough. Strong and relentless. 6'7" wingspan that does not go to waste as he is an active defender.

I get the criticisms that it was a reach. Purely based on consensus value, Ainge theoretically could have moved back - though I think what's being taken for granted is the willingness of a team to fairly compensate Ainge for taking on the risk of not landing his player. I think it's fair to say that this might have been the player that blew Ainge away the other day in his workout. So when Ainge didn't get what he was looking for, he recognized that his compilation of picks allows him to waste a few on gut feeling. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't. But it was his work of asset collection that makes this a justifiable gamble.

Also, Rozier seems to fit into the defensively versatile/offensively aggressive mold that has overtaken Stevens evaluation of players. Don't discount that factor.

Not denying all of this, Flex. But he's still coming in a logjammed spot. How does he get the minutes to develop. You'd think we have to trade someone to open up minutes for him. Who's it going to be.

Also, if he's the pick, ans the consensus say he's going to be available in the 20's, they why not move down?

Mickey isn't an upgrade over Bass. He hasn't even played a game in the NBA yet plus where would he get minutes at because last time I checked he was a 4 and Sully/ KO are still on the team.

Rozier is the 4th guard in the rotation and I don't see him playing at all with Bradley and IT on the roster Marcus can move to the 2 but Bradley and IT can't they are too small and will get taken advantage of. Rozier is 6'2 and is a worse player than Bradley and IT so he will get no minutes. Unless we trade one of those 2 guys. I don't even see him averaging more than 5 min per game this season

Bass is a free agent - no indication on whether he'd want to return or whether Danny feels it's worth bringing him back (since we're going young).

Sully has one year left on his contract and will probably want a max (or at least double figure) salary after this year - he's not worth that, and not likely to be retained.  Good chance he's traded by the deadline.

If Bass and Sully go, suddenly Olynyk becomes the only PF on our roster - and a guy like Mickey could full the bakcup role nicely.

Bradley is the most valuable player on the team in terms of trade value (aside from maybe Smart), so if Danny has any dreams of making a major trade, chances are Bradley will be gone.

If Bradley goes, then a guy like Rozier seems to have the skills to be able to do anything Bradley can.

If Bradley goes we may also need backups at both PG and SG spot, as Thomas and Smart likely become our starting guards.  Rozier could be out backup SG, and Thornton could be a backup PG.

There is a lot of flexibility - many backup options in case any of the above scenarios occur, and any of those guys walk (or get traded).

Danny has a chance to play all 4 rookies during summer league and preseason, see how they go...keep the ones who he feels could produce at an NBA level, cut/trade the others.

If some of these guys pan out better than expected, it gives him more flexibility to consider trading some of our existing veteran players.

For example, if we find that Rozier can do anything Bradley can, then how much cap space can we potenially save by trading Bradley and replacing him with Rozier?

Likewise Bass (who we'd likely need at least a MLE to bring back) if we can replace him with Mickey?

Flexibility, flexibility, flexibility.  That's what this is all about.

People act as if Rozier and Hunter didnt shoot terrible percentages in college. Hunter has no speed and will have a really tough time getting shots up in the NBA and Rozier is Reggie Jackson at best.

Mickeys the only pick to be excited about here, folks.

Smart had the same knock against him - that he couldn't shoot.

Yet in their rookie years Smart 33% from three and Jabari Parker shot less than 30%.

You never know what can happen with a player once the move to another league / system.  Stevens tried to turn everybody in to a shooter - if there is any coach in this league who can create a shooter out of somebody who isn't one, it's Stevens.

Rozier is sick.  For nothing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ49LB7yBuk

Research him.  Watch the tape.  You can't argue with that.
exactly. i can see a little d-wade in him. can't wait for the moves that danny will make this offseason

D-wade, huh? AND Danny's moves? So initial question is.. will he be better than Winslow at 10? Second, what is the likelihood he becomes D-Wade? Third, what is the likelihood he plays 8 minutes/game this year? Fourth, what's the likelihood he makes it in the league as a 2, playing the 1, who can't shoot?

Wooo! Research + Spring Breakkkk!!

Reminds me more of Eric Bledsoe than D-Wade. This also means that AB might be traded.

RJ Hunter was a steal..! Excited to see Stevens draw up plays for him..

Trivia:  Hunter was recruited out of H.S. by two schools:  Georgia State (by his dad) and Butler (by guess who?)
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Is it me, or has Dannys drafting improved since hiring CBS?

D-wade, huh? AND Danny's moves? So initial question is.. will he be better than Winslow at 10?

Quite possibly, if you ask me.

Winslow was one of those guys who was high on every mock draft, but who I was very "meh" about.  He actually doesn't look that great to me at.

I never knew about Rozier because I never looked at players who were projected so far back in the Mock drafts (credit to DA for keeping an open mind) but now that I've read about him and watched film of him and seen some of the things he can do - I think there's a very good chance he could turn out better than Winslow 2-3 years from now.

Second, what is the likelihood he becomes D-Wade?

Not very high, mainly because Wade is much larger (6' 4.75" with 6'10" wingspan) and I don't see this kid (at 6'2") ever being a 27 PPG scorer.

But I don't see any reason why he couldn't become at least as good as Bledsoe (who's been a 17 / 5 / 5 guy and a very hot commodity over the past two seasons) if not better.

Third, what is the likelihood he plays 8 minutes/game this year?

Depending on our team circumstances, the likelihood of that could be pretty good...because I'm pressure that that some time during this year one of our current guards is going to be moved.

Fourth, what's the likelihood he makes it in the league as a 2, playing the 1, who can't shoot?

Same likelihood as what it was for Eric Bledsoe who (at 6'1") is even shorter.

Drafting Rozier gives us a lot of options at the guard spot.

I love how Danny drafts.  He makes you think.  Something people don't like to do.

You got that right, especially on this blog.  I have never seen this may malcontents gathered in one place before!!!
