He has come out and said he feels more comfortable on both ends of the floor while playing the 2. He does not have slow lateral quickness, he never played defense before and only did 1 year of college to PG's 2 years. Also JY has an 8'8'' standing reach which helps him get his shot off with less contest/alterment. He can play the 3 but he has dominant advantages against 2 guards . Also lets say he gets beat off the dribble or on a cut, believe that his 7' wingspan will help ; most 3's ould have the same wingspan or just about.
"Defensively, it's just increasing his strength. For certain guys, it’s about the weight room as much as anything else. It’s about increasing and physically maturing into your body, from a versatile standpoint. James had really good success this year when we put him on smaller guys. And you can go back all the way through our film and say, 'He didn't lose guys very often.' He used his length, he affected them.
That was Stevens as to say about James defense on smaller defenders. I agree with you as his length bothers small players and as you said he can be beaten of the dribble and still be able to recover with his huge arms. With his increased bulk he can play in the post and create mismatches with other 2s. And his release is very high with his eltite size can be nearly unblockable by other 2s.
I think his body will be close to Joe Johnson.
