I'll admit that like many others, Jimmy Butler is one free agent I really would love to have and mention this in my "how to get 2 max guys" post.

If we offered Butler the max and gave Chicago the chance to do a sign and trade of Butler to Boston for Avery, Olynyk and 2 or 3 1st rounders, would Chicago go for it?

We can even include the Brooklyn picks.

This is the only way I can think of to get Butler. Would Chicago go for this?

Just one thing about Butler. Me and a friend were talking about the value of Butler. We came to the conclusion that his skills might not translate as well to different teams. If you look at the roster of the Bulls, it is very multidimensional in terms of scoring. I feel like that Butler had such success as he did because opposing teams couldn't guard him as well as they should have, because they had to basically stay faithful to their man. If he were to go to a different team, would he be as successful when the defense can now effectively zone in on him?

The only chance at Jimmy Butler is if he signs a 1 or 2 year deal this off-season, the Celtics spend the next year or two rebuilding the team in a way that puts them on the verge of seriously competing in the East while the Bulls fall apart under the new coaching regime, and then the Celts sign Butler to a mega-max deal in the new cap environment.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Yeah agreed, or if Butler were to really want out and put up a stink but I haven't read anything that suggests that. So yeah, maybe next year.
