I think a lot of Celtics fans drastically overrate James Young's value around the league.

Young wasn't good enough to get any significant playing time with us this year, despite the fact that Danny pretty much gave up on this team mid season (when he traded Rondo and Green) and gave in to another lottery year - only to have Marcus Smart, Isaiah thomas and co ruin his plan and lead the Celtics to the playoffs haha

But honestly we were pretty bad at some points in this season, and at some of those points in time we were looking like we'd be a bottom 6 team...yet still Young didn't get playing time.

That should give you some indication of how much potential Stevens and Ainge feel he has...

The Cs were playing Young significant minutes when Danny decided to *tank*.. Its when they were doing so well that they though they might as well go all in and benched Young.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Teams love shoot in and Young does that and he's very age young.

I don't love Young personally but there are probably some GMs that do. There was talk that because of his age, if he'd  stayed in college another year then he'd  be a top 10 pick.
Size, reasonable athleticism and an incredible stroke are worth a lot in the NBA.
Problem with Young as we've seen so far is his defensive awareness, and to be an elite 3+D role player in the NBA he needs to step it up.

But yeah there was an article a while back claiming that an unnamed NBA GM said Young would go top 10 in this year's draft if he'd stayed in school. Take that for what it's worth.
I just think  his attitude is lacking and he lacks heart/care, but that could be an age thing.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
