... Now look, I freakin love Paul Pierce.  I adore him.  He's my favorite player of the modern era. I named my cat after him.  But let's be real here... how is Melo worse than pre-KG Paul Pierce?

How many cats do you have?  Rajon, Paul . . . ?

You got a Kevin, RayRay, and Perk, too?

Melo is a little like Pierce, if Pierce never worked to expand his game beyond being a scorer and ISO player. He's an all star level talent that doesn't make his teammates better, not a good fit for a motion offense.. His injury history can't be ignored, his defensive effort and ability is a weakness, and his lack of leadership skills reminds me of a fellow NY star in Deron Williams, which is to say they're lacking.

He can play. But I really don't want him near this team, not unless we decide to end the youth movement and build around 30+ year old vets.

I'd want him. He is an elite talent. Cost is my concern as Ops deal is way too weak for Melo. Wallace, AB, and IT along with 16, Dallas 1st, Philly 2016 2nd, and a Brooklyn pick would do it for me. That is 2 good players, 1 serviceable players with expiring contract. 3 first rounders and the top of the second round pick. You could still cap hold Crowder and GiGi and get Gasol. Take Mickey at 28, Andrew Harrison at 33 and Brown at 45.

Starters: Smart, Turner, Melo, Sully, Gasol
Bench: Harrison, Brown, Young, Crowder, Gigi, Mickey, KO, Zeller

War chest ammo still available Wolves seconds, Brooklyn 1st, Memphis 2018* first and a few more random seconds that don't project well.

AFAIK his cat has always been named after Pierce?
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Carmelo has gone by that "point" in his career.  He could have stepped his game up, worked on all aspects and become a superstar at some point in his career.  His averages are nice but I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team.
pass

Umm...

He is a superstar lol
he is an all star yes but superstar level is mvp candidates
anyone think carmelo is a mvp candidate
imagine stevens ball movement offense and the ball getting (and staying) with carmelo

Anthony plays at an MVP level about two months out of every season. The rest of the year he is simply "very good."

I am reluctant to give Stevens' offense priority over acquiring players who are more talented (and generally better at basketball) than anyone on our roster currently.

Stevens ain't Pop. You alter your game plan for a good player in the NBA.
