When we sold pierce and garnett the destruction of the champion team started... 2014 with the sale of rondo and green danny ended an era... and started  a new one..
2014 we got guards... smart and young
2015 probably a center, hopefully towns or stein
2016 some forwards... we have 4 picks
i think ainge has already an opinion for the next 2 drafts... he will take this year a player he cannot get next year... there are plenty of forwards at the 2016 draft so he will draft for a center this summer!!!

its obviously very early to be looking forward to the next draft, but i like Jaylen Brown and i like D'angelo Russell this year. I know everyone wants a center but i dont think anyone in the next few years is going to be special. Jahlil Okafor is going to be a good player.. nothing more than Big Al. Willie Cauley Stein doesnt seem like he has the mentality to anchor a championship defense. I think its always a bad idea to go into a draft looking for a certain position. Just get the player most likely to be great. D'angelo Russell has star written all over him and Jaylen Brown is an athlete with offensive skill and defensive chops. Looks like a more explosive Joe Johnson. I wouldnt mind going forward with this backcourt:

pg D'Angelo Russell
sg Marcus Smart
sf Jaylen Brown

We can figure out the bigmen later

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
This seems to be the case, but I am still hoping we can go all-in for Cousins. In fact, I don't want to think of the Celtics future without him. He is everything we need going forward.

But, if that somehow miraculously doesn't happen - then I would be quite happy with D Jordan. I just hate taking flyers on centers early in drafts. It seems like there is as good of a chance that they will fail as succeed - not ideal for mid-lottery or above.

I agree with you on Brown and Russell. They have 'All Star' written all over them. Just two guys that the game comes to naturally. Although I wouldn't complain if we got Okafur- I do think he's slightly over rated and to say he's a franchise piece just isn't true because he hasn't proven himself to be anything near that on defense- which is where true franchise centers are born.

If we landed say, the 6th pick this year, then Russell is my guy. Assuming we'll be terrible again next year, I'd love Brown too at the SF spot.
Smart, Russell, Brown, would be a very nasty trio.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'd love to get Russell or Johnson but I don't see either lasting till the 6th pick.  The top 5 should be Okafor followed by (in some order) Mudiay, Towns, Russell and Johnson.

you never know though. so many drafts a team picks someone you dont expect and a good player falls. given that, i think one of the players you list has a good chance of being there at #6.

and if not, then WCS and porzingas would both be very nice consolation prizes.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
