Say he was willing to take a buyout at $5-6 million would that directly hit the cap or could one of the trade exemptions be used ?

at this point, should we just let him expire next year, not like we're going anywhere or the next. And how are we cap wise? We shed Rondo and his 12 mil expiring, Jeff Green and his 7 expiring, seems like we're way under cap this coming FA summer.

You keep Wallace at this point . He could be used as a big expiring contract this off-season or during the season next year. Always good to have a big expiring contract around to make trades. He has been a good mentor for the young guys and doesn't complain about playing time.

I wouldn't complain either if I had one of the best seats in the house and got payed 10 mil for it. :D

Seriously thought, he's the best guy right now to mentor Crowder. Similar games and Wallace could help Crowder excel his strengths making him better.

Someone take a closer look at our salary cap situation.  I briefly glanced yesterday and it looked like we had about 33 mil on the books if you assume we dump crowder and nelson before the deadline for expirings.

That leaves about 33 mil in cap space.  But if you factor in rookie contracts it's probably less.  We'd have to waive the big TPE's to get that cap space. But it looks like we'd have enough money to sign a max free agent (like Rondo, for instance).   Then next year, Wallace's contract would come in handy as an expiring contract.   Like, you could offer Wallace's 10 mil expiring + Avery Bradley's 8 mil (nice overpaid role player) + Marcus Smart + multiple 1sts for Melo and roll into next season with Melo and Rondo.   If Rondo takes less than max (like 15 mil), we might have enough cap space left over to sign another big time player like Asik or Monroe for 15 mil or so.

PG - Rondo (15 mil)
SG - Young (1.7 mil)
SF - Melo (23 mil)
PF - Sully (2.3 mil)
C - Asik (13 mil)
C - Zeller (2.6 mil)
PF - Oly (2.1 mil)
PG/SG/SF - Turner (3.4 mil)
Lotto rookie - 3.4 mil

That all squeezes in under the 66 mil cap.   Just a hypothetical.

Agree that Wallace can be used as an expiring to land a vet. Also, if really need the cap space Celts could lessen the Wallace hit to other teams by including up to 3 million in the trade. Wallace then only costs his new team 7 million in real money (10) on cap and they now have an expiring or can buy him out and save more real dollars.

Actually, it is one or the other because in order to use cap space, the TE's would need to be renounced.

Why on God's earth would you pay Asik 13 million? wow

Yes but isnt it flexible if you were to go over the cap? say if you sign 2 max deals??
