Boston receives: Eric Gordon, 2015 1st round pick (if falls between 20-30 or 1-3; basically reverse protection to make it CBA legal), 2018 unconditional 1st round pick
New Orleans receives: Jeff Green, Marcus Thornton

New Orleans is pressured to contend (as exemplified by Asik trade), and this trade fixes two biggest weaknesses for them - starting SF and bench scoring. Also, it removes injured, overpaid corpse of Eric Gordon. Also, if Green does not resign then instead of an expensive contract they will have money to either resign Asik or add a small forward.

They will probably be good enough so the pick will fall within 20-30 range and so it will go to us, not Houston. 2018 unconditional pick is there instead of 2017 because there is a possibility Davis leaves thus plunging them deep into lottery. For us taking on Gordon does not matter - we are not contending anyway and his contract expires at the same time as Wallace's. Two picks however are valuable and are more than we got for Rondo (straight up, discounting follow up trades). Additional benefit of this trade is opening up minutes for James Young and Smart.

I don't think they can trade us that 2015 pick (or any pick) until the one they owe Houston has been transfered regardless of the protections.   Not that acquiring Green and Thornton will push them into the top 11 teams this year but suppose it did.  the pick under your proposal would go to us but that then negates the deal they have with Houston since they cannot go without a first rounder for 2 consecutive years.  Houston's stuck waiting until 2017 at the earliest to get that pick.  I think the league would step in a kibosh the trade if it's not already against the rules.

also, no way they give up a 2018 unconditional pick.  Green and Thornton aren't enough to move the needle for them to justify that foolishness -- especially when the pick they gave up in the Jrue trade has come back to bite them.  minimal protections would have given them Noel and they're not feeling too bright about not having him next to Davis.

Your take on New Orleans regretting the Holiday trade doesn't sound realistic in the least. For starters, they're insistent on playing Davis at power forward, so it's highly unlikely they'd run the even thinner Noel at center. At best, Noel would be his backup.

considering how little it cost to get Rondo this year, I'm sure they're regretting giving up an unprotected first for a lesser PG

Just say no to Eric Gordon unless Wallace is included.

1) Rondo was injured and unavailable when they did the trade.
2) Holiday is already locked in as he was traded right before his extension kicked in. Rondo will be a free agent.  I'm sure they're fine with not having to worry about possibly losing a perfectly serviceable point guard in free agency.
