are we next to channel our outrage and indignation towards thornton? he makes more than bradley and is not as good a player.

actually every single metric available as well as looking at overall statistics, for example their production per 40 mins pace adjusted shows that Thornton is actually a better player.  maybe in the future Avery can surpass him but at present that's just not the case.

If you legitimately believe this, then I think we can end this thread right now

men lie, women lie, numbers don't lie.
Actually when used out of context, they can be as bad as women.
Btw, I can't believe what you just wrote about men.

You're absolutely right, numbers don't lie.  But they don't tell the whole story, either.

If you honestly think Thornton is better than Bradley, that's fine, but just realize that there's a reason that we got Zeller and Thornton for nothing, and that every GM in the NBA would disagree with you
I'm bitter.

Also numbers are not the same as statistics which are not the same as metrics

There's three kinds of lies: lies, [dang] lies and statistics.

I think the OP is making a valid argument. Let us face these facts:

Avery's defense is not as good as his reputation. Especially his trouble guarding guys bigger than him.

Avery seems to turn the ball over, especially makes dumb passes, at critical times.

Danny overpaid for Avery, but not as much as the stats seem to bear out.  I would call it a moderately bad contract, but it is not amare stoudemire terrible.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Just imagine that in 2016 it will be the equivalent of Courtney Lee's current deal.
One hope he'll be better than that. One hopes he'll be gone by then anyway.

I don't think he was signed as a long term option and Ainge's plan was to include him in a deal at some point. I don't hate him as long as he can hit the three at around 40% then his contract doesn't bother me.

No big deal especially since he'll probably be traded eventually.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Bradley's usage needs to go back down.

I understand that the front office is experimenting with whether they could turn this guy into a volume scorer, but that clearly isn't working and it's hurting his defense.

It's not as if we're so offensively stunted that Bradley needs to be taking 20 shots a game. Let Sullinger, Green, and Olynyk carry more of the load and have Bradley focus on defense.

Right now if you brought back Chris Johnson and gave him as many shots as Avery I imagine he'd score about the same amount of points. The elite defense is still there in flashes but it's nowhere near consistent enough to be a reliable skill. We need to stop ruining his development and have him focus on what he does best before he loses it completely.
