2005-06 team:
1  Delonte West
2  Tony Allen
3  Ryan Gomes
4  Al Jefferson
5  Kendrick Perkins
off the bench: Marcus Banks, Orien Green, Gerald Green, Justin Reed

2014-2015 team:
1  Marcus Smart
2  Avery Bradley
3  Evan Turner
4  Jared Sullinger
5  Tyler Zeller
off the bench: Kelly Olynyk, James Young, Phil Pressey, Dwight Powell

I'm almost certain that all 12 of these guys have 3 years or less of NBA experience at the time they were/are on these teams.

Really a two-part question:
Which team do you like better if you are the GM? It's not easy to choose if you have to ignore other players and circumstances.

The more fun question is, which team wins in a scrimmage game?  The match ups are fascinating!

I am going to go with the current team. I like Sully and Smart over Big Al as far as best prospects go. Both teams pretty deep with young talent.

Edit: Actually, I'll change my pick. Needed to look Gerald Green up. I couldn't remember when Gerald Green joined the team and how far along in his development he was in 2005-06. It was his first year with Celtics so I was still very high on him and would have included him as a top prospect alongside Big Al and would take G.Green + Big Al > Sully and Smart.

I remember how excited I was on draft day when Celtics got Green. Excellent size for a two guard, elite athleticism, beautiful jump-shot and an incredible finisher around the rim. He had so many tools to work with. Elite prospect.

Smart> Delonte
Avery> Tony Allen(can score more)
Turner>Gomes (sadly but it's true)
sully<AlJeff ( not by much either but big al had a lot of trade value and Pot)
Zeller=Perk ( since zeller been starting he's been showing a lot , perk really didn't have high value that season, the jury is still out on this match)

This years bench is lights years better simple fact of Kelly. Kelly is currently outperforming all of those mentioned, Gerald had so much upside but a lot of teams around the league didn't quite bite on that, I mean the kid did last in the league so that has something to say. I would say Overall, this years team has a lot more NBA PLAYERS, that team had superstar potential players in the eyes of the league.

Yeah but for that reason I chose the 2005-2006 team, it is really Big Al who tips the scales.  He is/was the best prospect out of any of these guys.

But GG at the time had trouble dribbling and really couldn't create his own shot.  Not any kind of defensive player either.  Sully and Smart are ahead of Al and Green on the defensive end.

Why didn't you choose the 06-07 team with Rondo? Wouldn't that make more sense, to compare the pre-Big 3 team to today's team so we can gauge how far in development and the depth of the team's asset pool from each era? Is there something unique about 05-06 that begs for a comparison with the current team?

Yes there is. I purposely wanted to leave Rondo out as he would skew the discussion. I am interested in knowing what people think about mid level to very good crop of players in these two phases of the Celtics.  Let me know what you think of the topic as I have posed it.

05 by far.  Nobody remembers our starters getting blown out in the playoffs by Indy, and then Banks, West, Allen, Jefferson, Perk came in and the second unit completely turned it around/won the game?

Tony, Delonte, and Jefferson were all capable starters on any team at that point in their careers.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
