This trade is between Boston and Minnesota.
Boston gives up: olynyk and Cleveland pick
Boston gets: gorgui deing
Minnesota gives up: gorgui deing
Minnesota gets: olynyk and Cleveland pick
Why Minnesota does it
Minnesota has recently given up kevin love as most of you know. They need a stretch 4. Olynyk can fit this pretty well.olynyk will make up for some of the lost offense. Olynyk has always been a favorite of flip saunders. Olynyk clearly has defensive struggles and does not fit the celtic's mindset so I think he should go. Minnesota already has there center for the next four years in pekovic. they could have wiggins in sf to help combat olynyk's bad d. Deing is in a log jam because he is a plays the 5 much better then the 4.
Why Boston
well deing is a young defensive center. he is 24 years old. his stats
PPG RPG BLKPG PER
7.8 7.4 1.5 19.31
He has numerous highlights and is a borderline all star. with some good coaching from bradly stevens who knows.
He generally has inconsistent playing time and I think would benefit playing with a player like rondo.
The celtics now would have a rim protector who can score a little. It would open up more playing time for sully and bass.with more playing time the better Bass looks for trade.
Dieng had 12 points and 10 rebounds, to go with two blocks and two steals, in Saturday's loss to the Kings.
Spin: Dieng has strung together a trio of decent performances with Nikola Pekovic out with a sprained right wrist. He doesn't offer much from a scoring perspective, but he's almost guaranteed to grab at least seven or eight rebounds, and he's tallied six blocks and eight steals over the past three contests. While he might be worth a look in the short-term, his value will depreciate whenever Pekovic returns.
Scouting report
+ Athletic, active 7-footer who excelled on the glass as a rookie
+ Looked overwhelmed by speed of the game early on before thriving as starter late in season
+ Skilled for a big man. Operates well from the high post
It's unclear whether force-feeding those minutes might have helped Dieng develop more quickly. Either way, Dieng's late-season play was encouraging. He averaged 12.2 points and 12.0 rebounds as a starter, including a 22-point, 21-rebound effort against the Houston Rockets that made him one of 15 players to record a 20-20 game last season. Now the trick is finding enough minutes for him with Pekovic back in the lineup. It's possible that Dieng and Pekovic could play together at times; Dieng is athletic for a 7-footer, and he's effective in the high post because he has good court vision for a center and is a decent midrange shooter (38.1 percent last season from beyond 16 feet, per Basketball-Reference.com). Dieng also flashed some low-post moves late in the season, but is not efficient enough for that to be a regular part of the offense.
Dieng's greater value is at the defensive end. He can step out to defend the pick-and-roll as well as locking down the paint. Dieng's block rate was solid last season, and he really excelled on the glass. His 20.1 percent rebound rate ranked seventh among players with at least 500 minutes of action. Though fouls were a bit of an issue early, Dieng cut his rate from 7.0 per 36 minutes as a reserve to just 3.2 as a starter.
