Has anyone noticed how much he has struggled to adapt to the NBA?  I recall how folks were disappointed we lost out on the coin flip, but he hasn't shown to be a high ceiling candidate.

He has a more difficult adjustment to make than probably anyone else.  His numbers don't look good, but if you watch the kid play you can see he's going to be special.  David Thrope recently ranked him as the #1 rookie thus far... which seems nuts, honestly... but that was his opinion.

We will not be able to determine how badly we missed out for another couple years.

Rookie deals are two years with a third team option, correct?  Just saying he may be special, but just for another team.

No rookie this year has set the league alight. Jabari has had some good games as has Wiggins. Dante will be just fine. You do realise how old he is?

Exactly, the kid is only 19. Just got his learner's permit a few weeks ago. Most his age are still at school. I'm not sure why so many people expected him to come out and dominate in his first season.

This year for him was always just about getting a foothold in the league. Learning to look after the ball and seeing first hand what is required defensively. He's well suited for a slowly rebuilding team like the Jazz.

After their rookie contracts they are only RFAs.

He's not only young, but also from the other side of the planet. Schroder had a similar adjustment (but was older) and look how quickly he's getting the hang of it.

Pretty sure 1st round picks are under complete team control for four years, then they are restricted free agents.  they are not unrestricted free agents until after their fifth year.

Correct.  2 years guaranteed, then two years of team options, then restricted free agency.  Teams don't lose hold of their draftees who turn into stars until after their second contract, unless the relationship is soured so much that they just take the qualifying offer from restricted free agency and leave after only 5 years instead (like Greg Monroe might).  And that's still 5 years of a player at a below market price even if it takes him until year 3 to put it together.
