Rudy and Gasol would be great.

If I were Ainge and Rondo, I would also keep Al Jefferson in my sights.

He might be a more attainable target than Gasol if he becomes a free agent next summer because of his familiarity with the Celtics and city of Boston.

Also, isn't Jefferson friends with Rondo?

Rudy and Gasol would certainly be a great upgrade (Even if I'm not much of a Rudy fan)...

But there was already a Rudy and Gasol experiment and Memphis and that didn't work out. Obviously there were other factors to that Grizzlies team but it got better once Rudy was traded. Makes me leery.

Exactly!

Not clear to me that pairing 3 top 40 players puts you in contention. Even if you were to argue that they were top 20 players, Rondo is the only one with a winning pedigree. In Rondo, Pierce, Garnett and Allen you had a remarkable collection of very serious, very tenacious, very disciplined individuals - not to mention the talent level. I like Gasol, Gay is a good player; but you need a fighter to will the team through tough situations. Ray and Pierce have ice in their veins. KG and Rondo play with great emotion and drive. I don't see those qualities in these guys; but think that Smart and Young could be significant new pieces.

What makes you think Gasol and Gay don't have that winning pedigree that Pierce, KG and Ray did?

Don't forget though, that a Rondo/Gasol/Gay trio would translate much better in the East than the Gay/Gasol/ZBo/Conley lineup did in the West.

However (and I've mentioned this another thread) as much as I like Gasol, I actually think Deandre Jordan would be a better pickup.

He would compliment guys like Rondo and Sullinger better, plus he's younger and more athletic.

Gar you don't think Gasol has a winning pedigree? You're talking about Adria Gasol right?
