The best case scenario for Avery is 2 parts:

1)Avery maximizes his potential and plays like some have posted

2)Avery's defense and professionalism rubs off on the current and future prospects we draft/trade for while rebuilding. I am specifically hoping that Avery's defense rubs off on James Young. James needs to soak up as much as possible from the veteran 2 guards :Avery, Thornton, and Turner. IMO James is in a great position to learn and grow over the next year.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I would agree to the other poster and go smaller Bruce Bowen.

A guy who will lock in opposing 1 and 2's and would hit open jumpers. I disagree about Joe Dumars. He's not that good of a ball handler to be as close a Joe.

I like Avery but he is nowhere near Dumars game

Not now, but that's probably the level he can perform at if he maximizes his potential.  Bradley still has upside.
AB will never get to Dumars level.  Dumars was a top-notch swing guard.  excellent defender, very good ballhandler,  very good passer, terrific shooter, respected lockerroom leader.  (horrible GM though but that's beside the point).

AB's as good a defender but the rest just isn't happening.  I'd be thrilled if he could improve to the point where he wasn't a TO waiting to happen on offense when handling/passing the ball but Dumars was a polished player in that respect.

I don't really have a handy player comparison for AB.  Definitely not Dumars but I think he can be better than Bowen.  He's as good a defender already and is more than just a 3 and D guy.  Maybe Michael Cooper but smaller and a better shot.

I'll take Bowen and his toughness/physicality over Bradley's ball pressure and thievery defensively.

Bradley's no Dumars on offense but by the same token he's well above Bowen on offense.

His potential is already pretty close to where he is now.  I think his offense will slightly improve with age and his defensive prowess should be maintained as long as his body doesn't break down.

I don't think we'll ever be looking at a perenniel all-start or anything.  Just a solid, defensive minded role player who can be a starter in the right situations.

I would not be surprised to see Bradley's offensive output peak around 18ppg and 42% from three.

With this current guard rotation in tact?
