Is Ed Davis really a rim protector? If he was the answer wouldn't he be making a lot more money from someone?

I am pretty sure he is an athletic power forward who can't shoot, and NOT a defensive center.

this sums up davis fairly well. i would expand the above and say that he has no consistent offensive game aside from put backs. he can rebound though.

blocking shots? in 36 minutes averages he had 1.9 blocks. ok. also, he lacks bulk and gets pushed around under the basket.

overall, a nice guy to have, but i don't see how he would contribute all that much to the celtics. he is backup pf/c material.

He might not block shots at an elite level but his % of shots converted against at the rim is very good. It was the same idea as Omer Asik, maybe he won't block a ton of shots but he prevents people from scoring around the hoop.

He rates out as a slight positive defensively a bigger minus offensively in the +/- numbers. Similar results can be seen with the on/off court numbers, though his defensive ability only really started popping out in Memphis.

That makes me suspect he might not be as helpful in less rigorous defensive situations.

He averages a bunch per 36 (not just blocks), and yet he hasn't played anything close to 36 mpg over what is now a 4-year NBA career. This is not accidental.
