Another wrinkle to this: the Stauskas pick was a puzzle for SAC at the time. Stauskas projected lower and overlaps with McLemore.

But if SAC picked Stauskas for Danny it might make more sense.

In which case we could be moving Smart + another piece (Bass?) for Stauskas and Thomas.

Or, we could be moving Rondo for Thomas and Stauskas (plus another piece I would hope).

After watching that intro press. conf. yesterday i don't think there's any way the C's would move Smart -- kid's a leader/winner.
it's a hype show. They'd move him if the deal was right.

They would, most certainly.  That said, I don't think that's in their immediate plans.

I also don't think we will be moving Rondo OR Smart in the time being. We're trading a proven player or a great player for Stauskas for what? It just doesn't make any sense to me

I generally agree, although if Rondo gets moved, it's going to be for a collection of largely unproven players / draft picks, because that's the market these days.  Also I'm a huge Stauskas fan (being a huge Michigan fan), but the concept of a Thomas/Stauskas/McLemore trade makes no sense to me having already drafted Smart and Young, unless Stevens is going full-on Butler and running four guards out there at a time.

Young won't be ready to contribute much at first and could eventually be the small forward after Green's contract expires.

New guard rotation

smart / Thomas / pressey
young / McLemore / staukas

everyone can score. Some shooters, some slashers, pass first in pressey. Smart and young on 1st unit, and Thomas+McLemore off the bench since they play with each other. Maybe play staukas with that 2nd unit to space the floor. He is a grest 3 pt shooter.

I dont see Bradley fitting here even though we extended the qo, unless  staukas isn't in the deal.

How about Rondo and Wallace for Thomas, Thompson, and McLemore?
You are no longer black, or brown, or yellow, or red! You are now GREEN, you are light GREEN, or dark GREEN!

I think the deal for Rondo would be Thomas and McLemore or Stauskas, not all three.  You would have a three guard rotation with Young getting minutes a few minutes at both shoot guard and small forward.

I meant in a deal for Stauskas, McLemore, etc.

Agreed that Ainge would trade anyone, but Smart >>>>>>>>> Stauskas, McLemore

Doing that -- and not getting back a guy like Travis Outlaw (1yr, $3M) would mean having to sign IT2 to a deal averaging ~$9.5M.... yikes.

What about a trade that includes Stauskus and Smart, but neither Rondo nor McLemore?

Any kind of trade with the Kings would have to involve Stauskas IMO. Let them keep McLemore, I don't see him improving much. Stauskas from what I've heard worked on his game in between each of his seasons at Michigan, that's the kind of work ethic fans should be excited about.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

smart is on a rookie contract and is cheaper than rondo, and might bring in future value for years to come.

You might not want to trade him, but do you think Ainge is unwilling to explore the possibility?

I like the idea of getting Detroit in the mix to facilitate a three-team trade. This presupposes that (1) Sacramento, with a new owner, is looking to make a big splash and (2) Stan Van Gundy wants a fresh slate, including Josh Smith out of town.

Something like (need to mess with the salary filler and/or trade exceptions):

Boston outgoing: Rondo, salary filler and/or trade exceptions
Boston incoming: Monroe (s/t at ~14 million per year), Stauskus, I. Thomas (s/t at $6-8 million per year)

Detroit outgoing: Josh Smith, Greg Monroe (s/t)
Detroit Incoming: McLemore and SAC and/or BOS salary filler

Sacramento outgoing: Stauskus, McLemore, I. Thomas (s/t), salary filler
Sacramento incoming: Rondo, J. Smith

I don't love Monroe as a defender or rim protector. And I don't love the pairing with Sullinger and Olynyk. But I am intrigued by him in Stevens' motion offense. Smart players who can shoot and pass (e.g., Monroe, Olynyk, Sullinger, Stauskus, Young) could really fit that system. If they could find a way to dump Green in favor of a SF like Heyward or Parsons that team would have the potential to be dynamic offensively and fun to watch (if not ready for prime time).

At the one-year anniversary of the Celtics-Nets trade, I believe.
