Unfortunately, the guy can't run.  He shuffles his feet, very awkward.

Not sure where this is coming from. His end to end speed is pretty incredible for a giant. Long strides from powerful legs, Tavares' best attribute might be his running ability in the transition game.

I agree.  I'd take him.  Thabeet and Hibbert are 9'5" by comparison.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Excellent, at least we'll win the standing reach contest during the all-star break. Wait, what?

^this.

I agree with this comment and I'll say I don't know much about his motor but if he puts it together with his physical blessings then he'd be an absolute monster in the NBA.  I haven't seen a 7'3" guy move as fluid as him with his strength.

I'm not saying to expect him to be a hall of famer but knock his game for something else because his movements are great for a large player.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for him to put together a Tyson Chandler type career.

He has a very awkward, stiff stride.  It looks like he's wearing a corset at times.  I found him to be surprisingly fairly quick off his feet but I seriously doubt he's going to be a threat in transition.

Super tall guys 7'3", is right where I get scared of it, are prone to injury.  Jabbar had a great career and he was 7'2"   Real tall guys like Manute, Muresan and Yao Ming were fragile.  Mark Eatomn had only one skill he could block shots and he had a nice a career but a lot of guys this tall and taller do not.  They have short careers for whatever reason

He does not have the coordination of Chandler.  Maybe, he can be a Muresan or Bol type of player.

I remember watching a Utah game where Eaton stood at half court on offense.  They preferred to play 4 on 5 on offense to keep him ready for defense.  Only time I've ever seen that.

It's not exactly rocket science.  Ever notice how Great Danes and Mastiffs live 7 years while smaller dogs live 15 years?

It's not just basketball, the entire universe works on these principles.  There's a little thing called mass times acceleration.

Mark Eaton had more than one skill. He was a professional auto mechanic when he was discovered.

I was speaking in basketball terms their careers are usually shorter.  I knew about the increased stress on heart and taller people have greater cancer risk.

That stress also applies to their backs/knees/ankles.
