"Metta's going to be heavy into the strategic portion of our practices," he added. "He'll be someone you'll see around. We're both into mental health awareness and I'll be really excited to see him (in) the gym."

I'm sorry to report that this is not a piece from the onion.  I don't even know where to begin on this one.  What school board would possibly approve this?  The girls shouldn't even try out for the team in protest, for starters.  What could he possibly teach them?  Oh, the mental health community is going to love having this clown as a spokesman and/or advocate for their cause (sarcasm).  WOW  :o

Oh, and if you haven't already visited the thread entitled 'Calling All Music Lovers', http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=70754.0, I'd encourage you to do so.  Wait until you hear her sing!

Yeah, you're probably right. The 15 year veteran, NBA All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year, and NBA Champion has nothing to offer strategically.

Not everyone hates him as much as you seem to.

Agreed. Good for Ron.

Ron Artest has been a fantastic player through most of his career. He just happens to be a nut job.

Dennis Rodman does what he does and Artest uses his gift to help people lol. Opposite ways crazy can go.

He beat people up his entire career.  I'm surprised Miami didn't sign him the moment he was cut by the knicks.  He would've added to Riley's long list of goons, although their history probably rendered such a signing impossible.  Yes, he had defensive gifts, but he was a thug - plain and simple, and guys like that have no place in the league imho.  I know he brought more to the table, but think if you were a parent, would you want your child learning anything from the star of the Malice at the Palace, the guy who elbowed James Harden in the head, the very same man whose knee in the thigh to Ray Allen in Game 3 helped them win that game?  I wouldn't.

If they want to learn about defense, why not watch a dvd on it, the UCONN Women, or a segment from Red on Roundball?  Everything's on YouTube nowadays.  I'm sorry, but players who intentionally hurt other guys to gain an advantage are not playing the right sport.  If they want to do that, go play football.  I always enjoyed watching Pierce torch him.

It is possible to play great defense without mauling your opponent, you know.

Metta World Peace took to his Twitter profile on Friday to announce that he is not considering retirement.

"No way in the world I am retiring. I'm too good," said World Peace. "Last year I had a consistent pre-season. I can't control what a coach does! I played very well in the Garden last year. I played well for the Lakers prior. Metta World will be back hard body next year." World Peace is currently set to be the assistant coach of a girls high school basketball team, but it seems apparent that he'd be more than willing to take an offer from an NBA team if the situation presents itself.

I forgot that he speaks in the third person.  Lovely  ::)

So are you critiquing the guy's character or his basketball intelligence? There is quite the difference.

Something tells me he won't be teaching high schoolers how to start brawls in 20,000 person arenas or how to elbow people in the heat of the moment. People make mistakes when competing at very high levels, it doesn't mean you are incapable of teaching someone fundamentals of a game he clearly knows much more about than any of us.

No one asserted you couldn't play defense without mauling your opponent.
