Maybe I'm off my rocker... I like him as a player, but is Gortat someone who would lead a team to a championship?  Maybe my memory fails me...Orlando basically gave him to Phoenix for draft picks and ???.  And, Phoenix didn't think he was worth what he was going to ask for and traded him for cap space.  My feeling he's looking for $13-$15 million.

And, I believe they did better without him. Doesn't sound like a great plan to me considering how much salary he might command.  If Washington doesn't resign him and Orlando and Phoenix basically gave him away...something doesn't add up.

I rather have Gortat than Asik

I think I would as well... Asik is a better defender by a bit but Gortat is miles better on the offensive end. Kills it with the pick and roll play as well.
Well, if Gortat is miles ahead of Asik on the offensive end, then Asik is miles ahead of Gorat on the defensive end.  Probably comes down to what you prefer and personally, it would be Asik.

Asik is not miles better defensively.  Gortat decent defensive center. Asik is just better.  But the gap offensively is much starker. Asik is simply awful at that end.

I disagree.

I think their is a far bigger gap offensively between Gortat and Asik then there is Defensively.

Asik is (arguably) a great defender, while Gortat is a good defender.  Gortat is a good offensive player, but Asik is a terrible offensive player.

Gortat is not a liability on either end of the court - he contributes on both ends.  If you pair him with a guy like Love,  Gortat will help cover for his defensive weaknesses while also complimenting him on the offensive end.  This would be an excellent offensive front court,  and at least an average defensive one.

Combine Gortat with a defensive big like Asik and Gortat's offensive contribution would help cover for Asik's lack of offender,  while further solidifying the front court defender.  That would be an exceptional defensive front court,  and at least an average offensive one.

Combining Asik with Love doesn't work the same way.  You need Love offense just to counter for Asik's lack of it,  and you need Asik's defense to make up for Love's lack of.  In the end neither player gives you an advantage because each strengths exist purely to negate the other players liability.  Its like taking -3 and then adding 3...You end up with. Zero.

With Asik on the roster you immediately limit your options on how to move forward.  You have absolutely no choice but to find an offensively oriented PF just to make up for Asiks horrible offensive game.  Your entire hope of success depends on your ability to find an offensive PF.

This is why I absolutely would take Gortat over Asik any day of the week.  Asik is a non factor on defense so opposing teams can completely ignore him,  leaving them the chance to focus their defensive attention on your scorers.  With Gortat you can't do that,  because he's a solid offensive threat

he's a good center. I am thinking IF you trade for Love, sign Gortat, that is a pretty solid starting lineup

ROndo/Bradley/Green/Love/Gortat.....that team could compete in the Eastern conference
