So we honestly have more pieces to use... We could build a contender next year.....

Can you trade a TE along with a player to bring in a higher salary player...

If so along with Bogans, that is some big cap relief.

Lee is a 2 million ish  plus Bogans is 7 Million
Paul is a 10 million ish plus Bogans is 15 Million

If so you can help teams clear cap space this year?  Who is desperate?

Buy low sell high is Danny's motto.

Milwaukee and OJ Mayo and/or Sanders might be avail ....who are they picking?
Houston and Asik
Love and Martin?
PHX needs to re up Bledsoe and get a big... who they dumping?

No, you can't.

The Lee TPE wouldn't be able to bring back much, if anything. One thing it might do: allow Ainge to trade a future 1st for someone on a current rookie contract, someone selected in the latter half of the 1st round.

You can't combine trade exceptions with additional salary - whatever comes back our way would have to be equal to or less than the trade exception.

Follow up question. Can you combine multiple trade exceptions to fit a single returning contract?

No, you can't stitch multiple TEs together to net a larger contract.

Here's a purely hypothetical scenario that would make use of the Lee TPE:

On Draft Night, Boston trades #6 to Orlando for the #12 and Toby Harris.

Harris fits into the Lee TPE, so Boston doesn't need to send out salary to match.

I don't recall ever hearing about a TE being used.  How do you use them?  You can't combine them with another player.  The only scenario I can think of is attaching a draft pick.  Or just basically absorbing a player from another team for no compensation.

That's exactly how you use them -- it's one-way salary that you don't have to match.

The Utah Jazz used the one they got from Chicago in the Boozer deal to grab Jefferson from the Timberwolves, absorbing his $10.3 million contract for two first rounders draft picks. They also sent out Kosta Koufos, I think.

It can be used as a side trade in part of a larger trade.  (say a Love trade)  Celtics can take back a smaller contract of an unwanted player as part of the deal to get a big time player.  As long as it is listed as a separate transaction.

The most likely way that exception would be used would probably be in December or early January to acquire a guy on a small non-minimum salary to bolster the bench.
