First Round Upsets = Volatility = More/Better Trade Opportunities for Danny

Another thread poses whether or not Westbrook would be available in a trade for Rondo in the event the Thunder lost in the first round.  It certainly increases the possibility.  Early exit by a higher seeded team often results in ownership putting pressure on management to "do something", or else.  Teams end up making moves just for the sake of doing something.  Teams that lose early may be facing major chemistry problems in the locker room (e.g. Indiana) or on the court (Indy, Houston and OKC) that management has to eliminate, often through a trade (e.g., Pistons trading AD to placate Isiah, or Lakers trading Shaq to appease Kobe).

This volatility is going to increase great trading opportunities for the Celtics.   In addition to the Westbrook idea, others have posed whether Hibbert might be available.  Something also has to give in Houston.  While I don't see them dealing Harden, they must realize that he is not the number 1 type of guy to lead his team to the championship.  Might get them to make room for Melo signing, and do something desperate in the process.

Would welcome discussion on other trade ideas you think could arise from an early exit of one or more of the higher seeded teams.

Should Chicago and/or Houston get swept, I'd expect them to go hard after Carmelo.

They'd need to free up cap space, which is where the TE from the Nets could make Boston potential opportunists.

It's definitely going to be an interesting offseason, but let's wait until some of these "favorites" actually get eliminated.

Preferably the Celtics would make their own pick off limits unless it's for a star.

If Indiana exits the first round you can't count out the possibility that they will try to blow it up and start over. You have to imagine that we'd be interested in Hibbert if this happens.

The Thunder aren't moving Westbrook for Rondo. They need scoring help for Durant and shooters.

Their problems are based around not having enough shooters to surround Durant and Westbrook. They want more sharpshooters and basically will attempt to copy the Miami Heat. The problem for them is they face a lot if tough big men in the western conference playoffs so they can't just dump Perkins until Steven Adams is competent enough guarding the paint against Gasoline, Duncan, Griffin, Zeebo etc...Next season they should be able to dump Perk and use his salary space to get 2 or 3 sharpshooters around the big 2.
Rondo would get Durant lots of shots but he probably gets enough as is- he just needs some guys to pass to like Ray Allen and Shane Battier/ Mike Miller.
Derek Fisher is pretty much their best shooter off the bench and that's a big problem come playoff time.
Scott Brooks is a terrible coach too.

Houston looks like they need a bit more in the X's and O's dept. on the offensive end, to be honest, but truly they don't quite have all the complementary pieces either way.

Rondo/Green for Asik/Lin based-deal (to put the ball in the hands of a decision-maker and distributeur-extrordinaire that can make their assortment of pieces work better together) would probably make Houston a better/more efficient team, and might be the basis of a workable deal.

Rondo would help Houston more than Melo would.
