By rule, every NBA team must pay its players $52.8 million in total salary by seasons end. In the current NBA climate teams are relectant to sign mid-level players to long term deals. Therefore, the "Rent a 1-year role player" has become a low/mid level asset. It allows teams to meet salary requirements and add talent to their team without long term commitment. This deadline Philly was able to benifit from this new found value by adding multiple 2nd round picks.
By this summer or next deadline, Joel Anthony, Brandon Bass and possibly even Avery Bradley and Jeff Green will offer solid returns depending on the direction the Celtics go or how good they are by this time next season. For this reason I wouldn't be apposed to the Celtics offering 1-year deals to Kris Humphries, Jerryd Bayless and Avery Bradley.
