If the Celtics land in the 6+ spot should we trade down in the draft?   There is a glut of PG and PF in those 5-9 picks and we are good at that position (barring trades)  Should we trade down to 10 to take Gary Harris or Rodney Hood?  Or Smart if he falls that far.

There are 6 players that interest me in this draft: the obvious 4 that everyone talks about and Vonleh and Saric (and I know those two, if they could be gotten later, I'd be good to trade down).

So depending on how much you value either of those two or someone else that you really covet at 5, I trade down if we get 5 or higher.

Philly has the Pelicans pick, currently about 5-6 slots below us and 3 second round picks. That could work.

Orlando, the Nuggets, Charlotte and Phoenix all have multiple firsts and some seconds.

Only if they fall out of the top 7. Theres a huge talent drop off after Parker, Embiid, Wiggins, Randle, Exum, Smart, and Vonleh. Not the slightest bit sold on Aaron Gordon. The only player I wouldn't mind taking at the 8 spot is actually Willey Cauley-Stein who could end up being a better Tyson Chandler and fills current team needs.

I mentioned this elsewhere.  I wouldn't be surprised if Danny traded a pick that was lower than 4.  After Embiid/Parker/Wiggins/Exum, there's some good prospects but in positions we're pretty well set in.  Would like to see a deal where Danny moves the pick for a lower pick and a good young prospect.

People have talked a lot about trading down if we end up with a pick outside of the top 5 or so, but what kind of deal are we talking about here?

Which young players are we thinking of targeting who might be available in such a trade?

Maybe Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, or Kawhi Leonard would be available in such a trade, but you'd be trading down to the end of the first round.  Greg Monroe would be a target, but the Pistons don't have their 1st to trade us.

Generally, I feel like it's easy to say "oh we should trade down," but you need teams with actual assets and a decent 1st round pick to make that work.

Like PhoSita suggested, it's impossible to say whether we should trade down without knowing what value is being offered.

In theory, it's a good idea to consider trading down if Danny doesn't think an elite prospect is on the board.

At the same time, the 7th best player in this draft (for instance) is likely to be significantly better than the 15th best player (for example).  Now, that doesn't mean the 7th best player will be picked 7th, or won't be available at 15th.  Talent evaluation is far from perfect.  However, trading down is an opportunity lost, and you need to make sure the value coming back is worth that missed opportunity.

No thanks on trading down.  The top 6 picks are primo, but there is plenty of other intriguing talent available from 7-14.  Personally I think Gary Harris is going to be a serious player at the next level.
