However, he sure “rebounded” to become the best Celtic thus far this season. Sully is the only one of Brad Stevens’ NBA players to have played at least 300 minutes in green with a positive plus/minus in 2013-14.

Sullinger definitely deserved his invitation to the Rising Stars Challenge because he has been one of the green’s best rebounders of the last few decades. His offensive rebounding might be the best of any Celtic in the last 20 years. He is on pace to be the only Boston basketball player in that span to play at least 1,250 minutes in one season and post an offensive rebounding percentage of 13.4 or better. The last player to accomplish that feat was Ed Pinckney with a 15.2 offensive rebounding percentage in 1991-92.

The main reason for Sullinger’s top-10 offensive rebounding percentage in the league (minimum 15 minutes per game) was his tremendous January. He led all NBA players with nine games of at least five offensive rebounds during that month. In comparison, there have been a combined five performances of five or more offensive rebounds by Celtics not named Sullinger this season.

With 24 points and 17 rebounds against the 76ers on January 29 and then 21 and 12 on Super Bowl Sunday, Sullinger reached another level in his sophomore season. For the first time in his career, he had back-to-back games of at least 15 points and 10 rebounds.

However, there is one cautionary note about the player who was the first Celtic to register a 25-20 game in just about a decade. I am all for Sullinger to continue to develop his outside shot – especially during a season like this one – but he has begun to struggle from deep. After shooting 32 percent from 3-point in November, he has dropped six percentage points in each month since (26 percent in December and a ghastly 20 percent in January)

Those are some pretty impressive numbers he is putting up on the boards , and he's right , besides KG , Sully is probably the best rebounder I have seen in a Green uniform since the early 90's .

The last paragraph is a bit concerning, but I honestly believe he can shoot the 3 fairly well in time . If he can hit it at a 35% clip in the future I will be very happy , as long as he is only taking 3 or 4 a game . No better season that this one when we are tanking to try and become more consistent .

I really think Sully is our PF of the future , now if we could get Embiid to place next to him and protect the rim, or someone similar , the C's will have a nasty, mean front court .

I'm going to go with Danny Fortson, only he was only here for a cup of coffee.

Leon Powe was impressive on the offensive boards, too.  Off the top of my head, I'd say both were better than Sully in that regard.

Brandon Hunter was a rebounding beast for a short stretch, too.  Big Al?

I'm kind of glad we have him shooting 3s, even though he is doing it at a below 30% clip.  This is a rebuilding year, so we might as well have him work on that skill now while the wins and losses don't really matter.  If he can get even a somewhat consistent 3 point shot, he will be a real nightmare to defend.

For all the complaining about him taking 3's, he has a better shot at making that his niche than becoming a force in the post.

Good call on Fortson:

That's all the C's who've hit 13.9% ORB%, 19.7 DRB% and 16.5% TRB%

If you look at his raw numbers this season, it's a trio of Al, 'Toine, and Sully:

Obviously big baby as well

Edit. Was talking about offensive rebound rate

I'm not huge on Sully taking threes but I wouldn't put too much stock in how he shot them with a hand injury.

Let us not forget the immortal Shav Randolph and his monster rebounding percentages of 17.2%/24.3%.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
I'm not concerned at all about the dip in 3P% - his struggles have coincided with his hand/finger injuries.

I like Shav. I would've loved to re-sign for a cheaper deal especially just to show the young bloods what hustling really is... But even though Shavlik rebounded very well, and played well. It was against garbage teams like Hawks and Cavs. Nothing impressive, plus if I remember Horford was out that game right?

And Shav probably doesn't count as he only averaged 12.4 MPG per basketball-reference.
